AUSTINTOWN OH- It’s time for another basketball season! Austintown Fitch is gearing up for another exciting year. The Falcons have put together one of the toughest schedules you’ll find on YSN.  Head coach Brian Beany wants to make sure when tournament time hits that his team is ready for any style of basketball opponents will throw at them.  The Falcons have a ton of talent at their disposal, and experience to go with it.

AKRON OH- Archbishop Hoban has seen a wave of success on the hardwood in their girls basketball program.  They’ve been able to produce not just top notch talent, but also leadership that builds a strong foundation.  Headed up by Pam Davis who will be inducted into the OHBSCA Hall of Fame, the Knights are always primed for winning.  The Knights return plenty of talent, and have the depth and experience to go far.

GIRARD OH- It’s a new era of girls basketball inside the gym at Girard. As Joe Bornemiss takes over his first year as the head coach, he has a lot to work with on the roster. The Indians are built on speed and athleticism.  Their opponents wil have a hard time keeping up with them, and a hard time being as conditioned as they are. NEW MIDDLETOWN OH- Last season, Springfield girls basketball got further than any other hoops team on YSN, getting all the way to Dayton. As they’ll carry the momentum from their state tournament run, they also bring some new faces into the fold.  Springfield returns three varsity starters to the floor, and a bunch of others that played a big role in their success.

WEST BRANCH GIRLS BASKETBALL COACH’S CORNER (EP 1 ) WITH WALT DESHIELDS

BELOIT OH- West Branch has arguably been the standard of success in girls basketball in the area during the coaching career of Walt DeShields.  A season that was hindered last season by a few injuries still ended up with a trip to the district tournament. After starting 4-10, the Warriors ended the season 9-2 which means they’re bringing a ton of momentum into the new year.

LOWELLVILLE OH- Lowellville is gearing up for basketball season, and the Rockets have a much of new names to get to know this year. They lost a big chunk of their offensive production to graduation, and now will rely on a young, but talented roster to compete in the MVAC.

Coach Lisa Modelski comes on for another year on the bench leading the team. She took time to talk with Anthony Hartwig about what this new season is about to bring. JACKSON MILTON GIRLS BASKETBALL COACH’S CORNER (EP 1) WITH JEFF WILSON

NORTH JACKSON OH- Blue Jays girls basketball is back! After not being able to field a team in 2022, the Blue Jays find themselves right back in the fold for the 2023-2024 season.  The roster features 10 freshman. Their young players do however have already have the familiarity with coach Wilson and his staff. Last season while they couldn’t field a team, the three players that did want to play basketball were able to practice with the junior high programs.  So it’s safe to say coach Wilson knows his freshman more than most get to know theirs.  Jackson Milton opens their season on November 27th at home vs Columbiana.

SOUTH RANGE FOOTBALL COACH’S CORNER (EP 11) WITH DAVID RACH

CANFIELD, OH-  Having clinched the NEA (Northeast Athletic Conference) title in their first year, Coach Rach expressed his pride in the hard work and consistency of his players. The seniors, in particular, have an impressive record of 27-0 against Northeast State throughout their careers. The coach acknowledged the challenges of winning football games and commended his team’s relentless dedication.

Transitioning from his role as defensive coordinator to head coach, Coach Rach admitted that the experience has been different. He credits his capable staff for providing support and allowing him to focus on other aspects of coaching. However, he also acknowledged the learning curve in managing the team and ensuring he strikes the right balance between guidance and giving his coaches the freedom they need.

As the South Range Raiders move from the regular season to the playoffs, Coach Rach acknowledged the different dynamic they face when preparing for unfamiliar opponents. He acknowledged the excitement and unpredictability that comes with facing teams they haven’t encountered before. The team is working diligently in the film room to be prepared for any challenges that their upcoming opponent, Fearless, may present.

Despite the underdog status, Coach Rach highlighted the team’s drive to improve and emphasized that they will take each game as an opportunity to grow. He spoke about the importance of continuous improvement throughout the playoffs and the need to address any weaknesses that persisted during the regular season.

When asked about the difference in preparation for the postseason compared to the regular season, Coach Rach noted that the need for thoroughness becomes even more significant. With unfamiliar opponents, the team must be ready to face anything thrown their way. He mentioned the challenge of acquiring limited films on opponents, leading them to search for additional resources such as YouTube to gain insights.

In a light-hearted moment during the podcast, Coach Rach engaged in a Rock, Paper, Scissors match with the podcast host. The stakes were set high, with the winner gaining the right to ask a question.

As the South Range Raiders gear up for their postseason pursuits, Coach Rach and his players are eager to continue their winning streak. Their remarkable achievements this season, coupled with their dedication to improvement, promise an exciting postseason for the team and their devoted fans.
