WATERLOO WINS MVAC LEAGUE; MCDONALD TAKES TOURNAMENT IN TIE BREAKER

SALEM OH- It was a big day for the 19-3 Waterloo Vikings as they competed in the MVAC tournament in Salem Hills on Wednesday.  Although the Vikings won the MVAC league championship throughout the regular season, they’d drop a 5th card playoff to McDonald in the tournament.  Both teams shot a 347.  Trevor Simons led the Vikings shooting an 80.  Jackson Eichler, and Noah Hughes were behind him with a 87.

For McDonald, they were led by Caleb Domitrovich who shot an 81.  Chris Ragazzine was behind him with a 84.  Next for the Blue Devils was Avery Maley with a 87.   Springfield’s Jackson Ensley shot the lowest score of the day with a 76.

All teams now look ahead to sectional tournament play which starts Wednesday. For Waterloo they will compete at Riverview in Newton Falls.

ZINES DOMINATES AT EOAC TOURNAMENT

SALEM OH- Salem Hills Golf and Country Club played host Tuesday to the Inaugural EOAC Girls Invitational. It was a great day for girls golf as twenty two participants from four schools converged on Salem Hills looking to take the conference crown. United’s Mati Zines continued to set the bar locally for girls golf as the junior claimed the individual title shooting an 18 hole round of 84. Izzy Travis of Columbiana finished second with 96, and East Palestine’s Addy Bycroft took third carding 98. Columbiana claimed the team title posting a score of 404. The host team United finished second with a 445, while Southern carded a 477 and East Palestine scored a 498.

URSULINE WINS SECOND STRAIGHT DIVISION II TITLE AT TERLESKY

YOUNGSTOWN OH- For the second straight season Ursuline girls golf got the division 2 championship at the Terlesky Golf Outing held at the Lake Club. The Irish shot a 300 as a team, 5 strokes ahead of Southeast for first place.

Daniella Patrone led the Irish with a 87.  Serena Grenga finished with a score of 94.  Josie Bishara shot a 99, followed by Maddie Rauzan who shot a 100.  Gia Schiavonne shot a 92 as an individual score.

FLASHES FIGURE OUT WAYS TO WIN

NORTH BLOOMFIELD OH-

The Lady Rams golf team traveled to Bristolwood Golf Course to take on the undefeated Champion Lady Flashes. The Lady Rams had a very tough time playing on the freshly aerated greens; however they gave it their all. The Lady Rams were led by Savannah Davison shooting a 59. Aubree Brunton shooting a 62. Brynn Brunton and Alivia Robinson rounded out the scoring shooting a 68 and 69. The Lady Rams are back in action next week at home for Senior Night against the Columbiana Lady Clippers.

RAMS COME OUT ON TOP IN MVAC SHOWDOWN

MINERAL RIDGE OH- Mineral Rudge golf picked up their 14th victory on Thursday as they battled in a tough MVAC meet. They beat McDonald, and Waterloo with a score of 173. McDonald scored a 177, and Waterloo scored a 178.

Trey Rigley shot a 41 for the Rams to lead the way.  Keaton Kucera was up next with a 43. AJ Sandy was right behind shooting a 44.  Chas Colantone shot a 45 for the Rams.  Rounding out the lineup was Jack Gillie with a 48 and Jackson Geddes with a 49.

Mineral Ridge will now look forward to the MVAC tournament on Wednesday.

SPARTANS SMASH FITCH

BOARDMAN OH- The lady Spartans played a great match against Fitch beating them 183 to 233. Junior Sophia Rivera had the low score for the match of a 41 and senior Zoey Fick- Mills came in second place with a 45. Seniors Emily Choleva and Kate Pendleton shot a 48 and 49.

The Spartans take on the Canfield and Poland Thursday at Mill Creek

HANOVERTON OH- United golf is a fairly new program, but boy has it seen a ton of success in a small period of time. One of the headliners in the program this season is junior Mati Zines. Mati had had a career full of accolades, but this year especially she is racking in the ribbons. Here are just a few of her accomplishments so far in her career at United.

EAGLES FLY OVER SOUTHERN ON SENIOR NIGHT

HANOVERTON OH- The United Local girls golf team, in just their second season of existence, continues to outperform themselves each and every time they take to the links. Wednesday night was no different as the Eagles set a school record defeating Southern Local 188-211 on Senior Night at Twin Springs.

The team total of 188 breaks the record of 197 previously set this season. Mati Zines continues to set records as well this season as the junior shot 36 breaking her previous school record of 37. United’s senior honoree Madison Kibler carded a 47,  while teammates Emma Murphy 51 and Olivia Ashburn 53 contributed to the record day.

Southern was led by Kennedy Lewis posting a 43.  The Indians also had contributions from Paige Riggs 53 and Katie Calderon 55 on the day.  Both teams return to action Tuesday for the EOAC girls tournament set to take place at Salem Hills.

KELLY LEADS THE POTTERS

WHEELING WV- East Liverpool’s Nathan Kelly made the trek with his teammates to Wheeling, WV in search of golf glory at the OVAC championship.m

That search was over the minute Kelly teed it up as the senior went on to card a 71 even par round earning OVAC 4A medalist honors Tuesday afternoon at Oglebay’s Crispin Course. The Potters as a team posted a score of 369, Preston Dawson contributed with an 87.

Beaver Local also in 4A finished the day with a score of 425, Michael McKenzie led the way for the Beavers carding an 87 on the day. Southern Local in 2A/1A shot 379 as a team. The Indians received a solid effort from Jason Riggs who finished his round with an 84.

CANFIELD WINS 2022 AAC CHAMPIONSHIP

YOUNGSTOWN OH- The Youngstown Country Club was the site of the girls AAC Golf championships on Tuesday. The Cardinals of Canfield were the ones that finished on top when it was said and done.

Canfield was led by Jocelyn Zhao who shot a 80.  Chloe Leskovac shot a 90 to be next on the team.  Miya Cohol was next finishing with a 91.  Taylor Marrone wasn’t far behind shooting a 93.  Ava Millich also finished with a 93.
