BEAVERS HASSLE HARRISON CENTRAL

EAST LIVERPOOL OH- The Beavers put together another impressive performance, winning their 5th straight game by beating the Harrison Central Huskies 48-14.

The Huskies got the ball to start, and wasted no time going down the field in 55 seconds, capping off a 67 yard TD drive with a 21 yard TD throw from Hayden Cassidy to Tre Rex. The Beavers would respond with a long TD drive of their own. Logan Blissenbach took one 27 yards to the house on 3rd and 20, as Austin Cline threw his first of 4 TD passes on the day. The Beavers defense came up big, forcing a three and out and paving the way for a 63 yard punt return TD by Dorian Jackson. The Beavers next drive ended with another Logan Blissenbach TD, this one from 29 yards out on 4th and 14.

Beaver Local would score twice more before the half, courtesy of a Caden Foster 33 yard TD catch and a 17 yard Austin Cline TD run, but Harrison Central was able to keep their hopes alive with a 65 yard bomb to Tre Rex from Hayden Cassidy again. Beaver Local shut the door coming out of half though, as we saw the third TD connection from Austin Cline and Logan Blissenbach, from 37 yards out this time, as Blissenbach ended with a Randy Moss esque stat line of 3 catches, 93 yards, and 3 scores. To cap off the night, the Beaver defense recovers a fumble in the end zone for yet another TD, giving them a 48-14 win and puts them in the driver seat for a Buckeye 8 North title, which would be the first in school history.

The Beavers travel to Indian Creek next week, looking to make history and officially clinch the Buckeye 8 North with a win. Kickoff at 7:00.

SALEM OVERCOMES SLOW START IN MARLINGTON

MARLINGTON OH- After a slow start by the high powered Quaker offense, they were able to find traction on the ground to the tune of 260 yards and knock of Marlington 35-17. After recent weeks where the aerial assault was in full force, it was the run game that dominated the night for the Quaker offense.

Jackson Johnson led the way with over 100 yards on the ground of his own, but was not alone, as Blaize Exline and Jason Austin carried the load for 80 and 89 yards respectively.

Salem was also aided by their defense, who surrendered only 3 points through the first 3 quarters, before Marlington was able to put two late touchdowns on the board. The Quakers also forced three turnovers on the evening, all interceptions, by Cam Jaquette, Donnie Oesch, and Damon Wolfe.

Wolfe’s interception couldn’t have come at a better time for the Quakers, who saw the Dukes driving and looking to cut into the Quaker lead. Deep in Quaker territory, Marlington tried to run a pitch to the left, which ended up in the hands of Wolfe, who would rumble 93 yards for the score, and put the game on ice.

Salem (6-1) now heads into the meat of the schedule with games next week at Carrollton, Canton South, before finishing off the regular season at home against West Branch. Combined, those teams are 17-4.

EAGLES PULL OFF THE COMEBACK TO STAY UNBEATEN

HUBBARD, Ohio –
Heading into the locker room behind 23-6 to the rival Poland Bulldogs (2-2), Coach Hoffman and company were composed, and ready to adjust.
“We were pretty focused at halftime” Coach Hoffman said. “I mean we came in they were focused… listened to what we had to say. Defensively we had made some adjustments for the second half and offensively there were some plays that were able to be made that we were able to talk them through… I don’t think anyone came into the locker room not believing that we could come out and get it done in the second half.”
And my oh my did the Eagles get it done. Receiving to start the final stanza, Hoffman’s unit needed just five plays to get into the endzone when T.C. Caffey would tally his first score of the night form thirty yards out. Nick Hendrix’s hard count would draw Poland offsides on the PAT, prompting the Eagle’s offensive unit to come out and go for two, which they would convert.
Over six minutes and thirteen snaps later, Poland would be face with fourth and five at the Hubbard nineteen. With a chance to possibly suppress the Hubbard comeback, the Bulldogs opted to keep the offense on the field up 23-14. Dropping senior quarterback, Jack Fulton, back to pass, the Poland signal caller would overthrow his receiver in the back of the endzone to turn it over on downs.
The next three snaps were all put into the arms of T.C. Caffey, each one of them resulting in a Hubbard first down and placing the ball exactly at the midfield marker. The Eagles had no plans on turning away from their bell cow now, as the resulting twelve snaps would amount in carries for Caffey, the final one coming from three yards out and in to the endzone, for his second score of the night.
Forcing a three and out and a bad punt by the Poland special teams unit, Caffey and Co. would take over at the Bulldog thirty-six yard line. Trailing by four, Hubbard would put the game on the back of T.C. and their offensive line.
Touts of ten, eight, and nine had Hubbard in a goal to go situation. Then, from four yards out, Caffey would fight his way into the endzone for his third touchdown of the night and give the Eagles their first lead.
With just under four minutes to go, Poland’s kickoff return team set up their offense with good field position, getting it out to their own forty-seven. Fulton was able to move his unit down to the Hubbard nineteen before the drive would stall, and the Bulldogs would run out of time, giving the Eagles the win, 27-23.
