CHANEY GETS RAIDED BY HARDING

By Tim Corso

WARREN OH- Warren Harding fought past Chaney last night in a physical battle, 26-7.

The last time our area had a game called before the clock hit zero, it was due to lighting…not tonight.

It all started when Senior quarterback Drew Gault took in a 3-yard touchdown run then got hit in the endzone by Harding’s Airiz Coleman-Bey. This sparked a scrum that would ripple throughout the rest of the game.

The antics seemed to spark the Raiders after getting driven on, as they answered the bell with four straight touchdowns to secure the win.

The first touchdown came late in the first half when Warren signal caller Drew McKowan found Naujet Jones on a 41-yard touchdown strike.

At half, it appeared both Cowboy and Raider fans were in for a defensive battle. Coincidentally, it was defense that won the game for Harding.

After McGowan was picked off on the opening drive by Chaney’s Bryson Douglas, miscommunication from Gault and Darius Stonework forced an interception that was then taken to the house by Senior, Ryan Powell, giving the Raiders a 14-7 lead.

The Cowboys offense struggled to stay on the field all night as Gault was picked off three times in total. The final time was a game-sealing pick-six from Jones.

As Warren was running the clock down under four minutes inside Chaney territory, an outside run from Brandon Coleman ended with Coleman being hit hard. There was then an altercation on the field, causing the refs to call the game due to player safety with 3:46 left in the game.

Warren Harding (2-4) snapped a three-game losing streak tonight and will host Boardman next week in a conference showdown. Chaney (2-3) will look to avoid three straight losses while hosting Cardinal Mooney next week in a conference game of its’ own.
