EP RIPS THROUGH SOUTHERN

EAST PALESTINE, OH- Tommy Beatty was a powerhouse at the plate, driving in four runs with two hits to spearhead East Palestine’s dominant 18-5 win over Southern on Wednesday. Beatty’s key moment came in the second inning when he ripped a double to clear the bases.

East Palestine came out swinging, putting up a whopping 11 runs in the first inning alone. Phoenix Marvin and Logen Guy kicked things off with RBI singles, while Michael Morrison and Josh Bland each took one for the team, getting plunked to drive in runs. Peyton Rutledge added another RBI single into the mix. As the hits kept coming, Marvin doubled to bring in two more, and Kyler Bourne smashed another double to tack on two runs.

Southern did manage to get on the scoreboard early with Chase Forbes driving in a run with a single in the first inning, but they were mostly playing catch-up.

The onslaught continued for East Palestine with a passed ball in the third inning that pushed their lead to 15-4.

On the mound, Bourne handled the bulk of the pitching for East Palestine, surrendering four hits and four unearned runs across three innings, striking out four. Beatty also took to the hill in relief, helping to close things out. Southern’s Frank Shagnot struggled mightily, lasting only a third of an inning while giving up 11 runs.

At the dish, East Palestine was relentless, racking up 15 hits. Bourne, Rutledge, Guy, Jason Robb, Beatty, and Marvin all had multi-hit games, keeping the pressure on all game long.

For Southern, Forbes and Mason Pitts each contributed an RBI, with Pitts leading the team with two hits. Shagnot also showed off his speed, stealing three bases despite the tough day.

East Palestine is looking to keep the momentum rolling as they head to East Liverpool for their next game on Thursday.
