FITCH HOLDS STRONG IN PITCHERS DUEL OVER BOARDMAN

AUSTINTOWN, OH- Both teams were strong on the mound Monday, but Austintown-Fitch defeated Boardman 2-1. Falcon ace, Mason Petridis allowed just five hits to Boardman.

Austintown-Fitch Varsity Falcons fired up the offense in the first inning. Carson Fuller drove in one when Fuller singled into right field to start the party.

In the top of the third inning, Boardman tied things up at one when Marty Stachowicz’s sac fly scored one run for Boardman.  Boardman would continue to apply pressure with small ball, but was unable to score besides the lone run in the third.

The Falcons pulled away for good with one run in the fourth inning. In the fourth Hayden Warmouth singled to right field on a 1-1 count, scoring one run.

Petridis took the win for Fitch. The righty lasted seven innings, allowing five hits and one run while striking out ten and walking one.

Gavin Hyde took the loss for Boardman. The bulldog lasted six innings, allowing four hits and two runs while striking out seven and walking one.

Fuller, Rocco DiFlorio, Warmouth, and Frank Senediak each collected one hit to lead Austintown-Fitch. The Falcons didn’t commit a single error in the field. Jake Wallace had ten chances in the field, the most on the team.

Boardman was led offensively by Stachowicz’s RBI, but hits were supplied by Gavin Hyde, Charlie Young, Landon Whippo, and Grayson Eicher.

The two teams will tie up again in Boardman Tuesday afternoon at 5pm to complete the season series.
