GARFIELD EARNS GILBERT HIS 250TH CAREER WIN

COLUMBIANA OH- The MVAC Gray Tier has been nothing short of a gauntlet on both the boys and girls sides this season.

On the girls side, it was a matchup between The Garrettsville Garfield Lady G-Men making the trip down to Crestview to do battle with The Lady Rebels.

The first half proved to be a low scoring, scrappy and defensive battle! With both teams jockeying for position on one another in the first sixteen minutes.

Crestview, coming into this season, has a lot of young talent on the roster. Including two freshmen that got the start in Saturday’s contest.

One of those freshmen being the young star in Luvrain Gaskins, who dropped 14 points in the first half!

Gaskins’ big first helped The Lady Rebels draw even with The Lady G-Men going into halftime 19-19.

However, the talks with Coach Gilbert fired up Garrettsville out of the half. Garfield out scored Crestview 21-7 in the third quarter alone to take a 40-26 with just the fourth quarter remaining.

The story of the second half? Jenna Smith playing takeover ball for The Lady G-Men! With 18 points in the second half and 26 on the day.

Sarah Seaman knocked four triples down as a part of a 14 point performance on Saturday.

But it was Smith, accounting for almost half of her team’s offense, that named her The Player of The Game! The Lady G-Men kept that momentum rolling, taking that third quarter lead and never looking back, as Garrestville won 55-40 over Crestview.

Winning both times over The Lady Rebels, the win marks career win number 250 for Garfield Head Coach Aaron Gilbert, with over 200 of those victories coming at Garrettsville.

Crestview (9-9) will look to bounce back against Hubbard (8-8) and The Lady Eagles on Thursday, February 10th.

Coach Gilbert will waste little time trying to get win 251, as Garrettsville (13-6) will travel to conference opponent Brookfield (12-4) for a conference matchup on Monday, February 7th.
