HUBBARD HOLDS OFF GIRARD COMEBACK FOR A SWEEP

HUBBARD, OHIO- Girard watched the game slip away early and couldn’t recover in a 9-6 loss to Hubbard on Thursday.

The Eagles  got things rolling early when they scored on a triple by Haleigh Taylor in the first inning, a double by Lauren Komorek in the first inning, a single by Emalee Warren in the first inning, a single by Alyssa Gregory in the first inning, and a single by Kaylee Schultz in the second inning.

Girard had their big inning when they tallied six runs in the fourth as Aly Wakefield, Malina Serrano, Ali Durkin, and Sidnee Rice all drove in runs in the frame.

The Eagles racked up 11 hits on the day.  Phoebe Rusnak, Komorek, Taylor, and Schultz all collected multiple hits for Hubbard. Rusnak went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead the Eagles.

Schultz led things off in the pitcher’s circle for the Eagles as she surrendered four runs on seven hits over three and a third innings, striking out two and walking zero.

Girard scattered ten hits in the game as Abbie Rafferty and Serrano all managed multiple hits.

Wakefield was on the rubber for the Indians and lasted one inning, allowing five hits and five runs while striking out one and walking one. Emily Rosace threw five innings in relief.

Girard will try to bounce back when they play Jefferson on Monday at 5:00 p.m. while Hubbard will host Liberty at 5:00 p.m.
