LESNAK’S BIRTHDAY BASH GETS SPRINGFIELD AN EXTRA INNING WIN

Springfield stole the lead late in the game in a 9-5 victory over Waterloo in 8 innings on Tuesday. The game was tied at five with the Tigers batting in the top of the eighth when Gianna Piccuta singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run.

Springfield fired up the offense in the first inning. Rachel Malatok singled on a 0-1 count, scoring one run.

After the Tigers scored two runs in the top of the fourth, Waterloo Lady Vikes answered with two of their own. Springfield Varsity Tigers scored when Madi Lesnak hit a solo homer and Jacey Mullen doubled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run.

Lesnak was the winning pitcher for Springfield. She surrendered five runs on eight hits over eight innings, striking out eight.

Springfield smacked one home run on the day. Lesnak put one out in the fourth inning.

The Tigers scattered 14 hits in the game. Lesnak, Emily Gerthung, Malatok, and Piccuta each had multiple hits. Gerthung and Lesnak each collected three hits to lead the way.
