MOONEY SLIDES SAFELY INTO NEXT ROUND

COLUMBIANA, OH- Columbiana fell to Mooney in a sectional final 8-3 on Wednesday afternoon.

After two scoreless innings, Mooney was able to jump out ahead thanks to two infield singles followed by two doubles that plated three runs.  Mooney would tack on two more in the frame building a 5-0 lead.  In the fourth inning Mooney added another two runs to make the score 7-0.
Columbiana would mount a small comeback in the fifth inning.  Zach Pleska singled to lead off the inning and Riley McElwain followed with a walk.  After a fly out Brady Dixon singled to center scoring Pleska.  Both McElwain and Dixon would advance on the throw.  McEwain would score on a wild pitch.  Eddie Clancy, who pinch ran for Dixon, came across the plate on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Logan Hoschar giving the Clippers three runs in the inning and cutting Mooney’s lead to 7-3.
Ethan Shaw would help lead the Cards at the plate with a 2-4 night and a pair of RBI, while Logan Boyd did the damage as well with a 3-3 game at the dish while driving in two runners as well.  Jordan Sheehan would add a pair of knocks and an RBI to the tally for Mooney in the win.
Both teams were held scoreless in the sixth but Mooney was able to push across a run in the seventh as they were helped out by a couple of Clipper errors.
On the day both Pleska and Dixon had two hits.  Bayden Pipoly would add the other hit for the Clippers with a single in the sixth.
Columbiana will close out its 2021 season on Saturday as the Western Reserve Blue Devils come to town for an 11 AM start.
