SCRAPPERS SWEEP BLACK BEARS IN OPENING SERIES

NILES OH- The Mahoning Valley Scrappers are off to a blazing hot start in 2022, beating West Virginia 10-4 in the series finale and sweeping the Black Bears in the opening series.

West Virginia scored first in the second inning, but the Scrappers rallied to score 4 runs on 5 hits in the third inning to take a 4-1 lead. West Virginia came right back to tie the game in the top of the fourth inning with a 3 run frame. Mahoning Valley countered that with a 4 run fifth inning on a go ahead double by Owen Jackson, and then a 2 run homerun by Matt Archer.

The Scrappers bullpen was stellar this afternoon, as Davis Pratt, Karter Fitzpatrick, and Sean Goodwin combined for 5.2 IP, while giving up no runs to preserve the lead. The Scrappers would win the series finale 10-4, taking the series sweep.

Richie Juliano caught up with manager Homer Bush and the YSN player of the game, Owen Jackson after his 2-3 performance. Here is what they had to say:
