FALCONS FIGHT BACK; LAST PLAY GETS AWAY

AUSTINTOWN, OH – On a night where Erie McDowell, a perennial Pennsylvania powerhouse, was supposed to punch the clock on a business trip to the Valley, the Austintown Fitch Falcons gave them a tour of what “Grit City” is all about.

Coach Elliot’s squad trailed 31-13 in the third quarter before the Falcons clawed their way back in it and eventually took the lead with 1:20 left in the fourth quarter 35-31. But in the end, it was the Trojan offense that proved to be too much for the Falcons as they marched down the field, 65 yards, to take the go-ahead touchdown with 16 seconds remaining, 38-35. Even then, Fitch was able to muster a dramatic drive to end it, as Devin Sherwood heaved up a prayer with no time remaining from thirty yards out, on a ball that was batted around and was eventually called incomplete in the back of the end zone by the back judge, who claimed it hit the ground.

Austintown was led through the air by Devin Sherwood with 17 completions on 27 attempts for 325 yards and 5 touchdowns. Austintown was led on the ground by Devin Sherwood with 18 carries for 48 yards. Austintown’s top receivers were Nate Leskovac with 6 reception for 86 yards, Jaden Murray with 2 receptions for 79 yards and 2 touchdowns, Donnie Ellis with 2 receptions for 70 yards, and Todd Sims 3 receptions for 56 yards and 2 touchdowns. Fitch was led on defense by Nate Leskovac and Shawn Mayes with 7.5 tackles each, Chris Scott with 5.5 tackles, Christian Armstrong with 4.5 tackles, Neshawn Cochrane with 4 tackles, and Joe Perez with 3 tackles.

Fitch now begins preparation for their week nine matchup against the Boardman Spartans at Spartan Stadium. Spartans will be heading into week nine coming off a 34-19 victory over the Ursuline Irish.
