UNITED LOCAL COACH’S CORNER (EP 1) WITH CHRIS KADVAN

After graduating 7 seniors in 2019, United Basketball looks toward a youth movement in 2020.  Led again by fearless leader, Chris Kadvan, the Eagles are looking to soar under the radar and compete in the always competitive EOAC.

With the season just around the corner, we sat down for our weekly conversation with the Head Coach for United, and discuss opportunities and obstacles that will be faced throughout the season.

A fresh season full of highlights is ahead for United, and we’ll have it right here on YSN.  So, sit back, relax, and enjoy Episode 1 of United Local Coach’s Corner.

EAGLES SOAR IN SEASON OPENER

WARREN, OH- Coming off an incredible run in football, the Kennedy Eagles are looking to keep the momentum going on the hardwood.  It all started Monday Evening with an explosive victory over Fuchs, 79-60.

As a team, the Eagles posted big numbers including 13 splashes from beyond the arc and 18 assists to go with them.  Saba Svani led the way with 22 points while Gabe Green and Bobby Plizga each had 14.  Tyrel James added 11 to start the year off right as well!

The Eagles (1-0) will now turn to Saturday’s matchup against the high-powered Struthers Wildcats of the NE8 Conference.

 

LADY CLIPPERS LIFTOFF AGAINST ROCKETS

COLUMBIANA, OH- There will be many eyes on the Red and White of Columbiana this year.  Last night, many of those sets of eyes left impressed as the Lady Clippers delivered a big win at home 68-34 over Lowellville.

The Clippers started off slow, but it didn’t take long into the second quarter once to catch their stride.  Kayla Muslovski led all scorers with 31 points, 5 steals, and 3 helpers.  Grace Witmer racked up the G. Burbick Farms player of the game for her efforts of 12 points, 2 blocks, 4 steals, 6 rebounds, and a pair of assists while Grace Hammond also scored a dozen with 8 rebounds to show as well.

Columbiana (1-1) will now turn their attention to Ursuline who they will take on in Youngstown on Thursday Night on YSN.

SALEM RACES PAST UNITED

SALEM, OH- Kyla Jamison and Abbie Davidson powered the Lady Quakers past United on Monday night.

Jamison led all scorers with 13 points while grabbing 9 rebounds. Freshman Abbie Davidson dialed in from deep on the night hitting three 3 pointers and finishing with 11 points. Taylor Troy also chipped in 8 points respectively for the Lady Quakers tonight. Annie Davidson had a solid night on the defensive end grabbing 5 rebounds and 3 steals.

Salem will be home on Wednesday hosting Canfield. JV starts at 5:30pm, Varsity at 7pm.

JEFFERSON FLIES TO 2-0 IN WIN OVER EDGEWOOD

JEFFERSON, OH- The Lady Falcons are off to a flying start this season as they won their second straight contest in a 45-31 victory over Edgewood.

Jefferson hung their hat on the defensive front all evening and kept the Lady Warriors scanning for open looks throughout the game.

Offensively, Kennadie Mullen paced the birds with 12 points, while Taylor Skinner had 11.  Megan Jacobs and Monica Devine had 8 apiece, while Kyle Francis and Tyrah Skinner chipped in 3 each.

The Lady Falcons (2-0) now turn their attention to Girard on the road on Thursday.

LADY SPARTANS FALL TO INDIAN CREEK IN HOLIDAY HOOPLA

NORTH CANTON, OH- The Boardman Lady Spartans fell to a solid Indian Creek Redskins team on Sunday afternoon 50-40 at Walsh University’s Holiday Hoopla.

Boardman led 12-10 after the first quarter but Creek dominated the second with an 18-9 quarter to lead 28-21 at the half. Boardman cut the lead to 46-40 with about 2 minutes to go but missed several free throws and was forced to foul and Indian Creek capitalized at the line to put the game away.

The loss drops Boardman’s record to 0-2 on the young season. The Maroon and White were led by Juniors, Maria Torres (12 points, 7 rebounds, 2 steals) and Emma Tokarsky (12 points, 6 rebounds and 3 steals). Raegan Burkey had 6 points, 2 rebounds, 6 assists, and 2 steals. Katie Stamp added 5 points, 5 rebounds and 3 steals as she was limited by foul trouble. Rounding at the scoring were Jenna Olexa with a triple and Gia Triveri with 2.

Boardman looks to get their first win on the season Wednesday at home versus rival Cardinal Mooney.  That game can be seen on YSN.

LADY FALCONS REMAIN PERFECT AGAINST MAYFIELD

NORTH CANTON, OH- The Austintown Fitch Girls Basketball Team defeated Mayfield 56-39 Sunday in the Holiday Hoopla Tournament played at Walsh University.

Fitch was led by Daria Williams with 16 points. Ashley Mickey and Emma Bartlett had 10 points each, Chelsie Wheeler had 9, Mya McNevin had 7 and Caitlyn Corbett added 4, respectively.

The Lady Falcons move to a perfect 3-0 and will face Massillon Jackson Saturday, December 7th at home in the Falcon’s Nest.

URSULINE FALLS SHORT TO OPEN SEASON

DOYLESTOWN, OH- The Ursuline Lady Irish opened up their season on the road at the Chippewa Classic where they were able to put up points, but it just wasn’t enough to take down the host team as Chippewa prevailed 53-44.

For the Lady Irish, Anisah Moorman led the way with 13 points and 6 assists.  Cara McNally dialed up a 3-ball on her way to 8 points, and Paris Gilmore had 10.  Rachel Fabry and Alayna Smith added a pair of assists apiece as well.

Ursuline(0-1) will host Columbiana this week on Thursday, the game will be streamed on YSN.

HEARTLAND OUTLASTS LISBON

LISBON, OH- Heartland Christian played inspired basketball on Saturday night on the way to a 53-50 victory over host Lisbon.  The Lions shot 39% from the field as a team while going 5/19 beyond the arc.

Heartland’s leading scorers were Steven Baker and Ronnie Matthews who had 14 apiece and collectively pulled in 16 rebounds as well.  Becket Richards also contributed 6 points and 4 rebounds on the night.

For Lisbon, Ryan McCullough paced the attack with 16 points, 4 rebounds and 3 assists with pair of steals.  Blayne Brownfield had 13 tallies with 6 boards.

The Blue Devils (0-2) will become road warriors beginning with East Canton on Tuesday.  The team will return home on December 14th against Crestview on YSN.

BLUE DEVILS CAN’T SHAKE VALLEY CHRISTIAN

YOUNGSTOWN, OH- In their first game of 2019, the new-look Lisbon Blue Devils were unable to keep pace with Valley Christian- who outscored the Devils in all but one quarter to win 72-60.

Lisbon was led by Blayne Brownfield who filled the bucket for 35 points, going 13 of 25 from the field and 6 of 15 from beyond the arc.  Brownfield also had 4 boards, a steal, and an assist.  Ryan McCullough and Adam Spencer were also contributors scoring 9 and 8, respectively.

For Valley Christian, Mark Revere had 28 points and 9 rebounds while stealing 4 and dishing 4 as well.  Lohron Brown added 19 points and 5 assists for the victors.
