BULLDOGS BOUNCE BACK IN THE DRAGONS DEN

NILES OH- In a hard-fought battle on the gridiron, Poland bounced back from last week’s setback with a gritty 28-14 victory on the road over the Niles Dragons. The game featured a series of compelling moments that kept fans on the edge of their seats.

In the 1st quarter, Niles embarked on a promising drive, starting at their own 4-yard line. Anthony Budak’s precision passing, including a 36-yard completion to Kristopher Hrosar, and powerful carries by Antuan Gardner and Joe Smith, took them to the Poland 6. However, Niles missed a 23-yard field goal attempt. Poland responded with an 80-yard drive, culminating in Dom Pagano’s 2-yard touchdown run, and the PAT was good, putting them ahead 7-0.

The 2nd quarter saw Niles’ defense stepping up, stopping Poland on 4th down at the Poland 47-yard line. Then, Budak found Gardner with a 27-yard touchdown pass, and the successful PAT leveled the score at 7-7. Poland answered back with Cole Fulton’s 6-yard touchdown run, capping a drive that started at their own 31. The PAT was good, and Poland led 14-7.

As the 3rd quarter began, Poland executed a successful onside kick, gaining possession at the Niles 48-yard line. However, the Red Dragons’ defense stood firm, forcing a turnover on downs. Niles responded by punting, and Poland’s Cole Fulton unleashed a 52-yard touchdown run, extending their lead to 21-7. Niles answered with a 71-yard drive, with Anthony Budak rushing for a 2-yard touchdown to narrow the gap to 21-14.

In a pivotal moment, Cole Fulton, on the first play from scrimmage, broke free for a breathtaking 69-yard touchdown run. The successful PAT extended Poland’s lead to 28-14 with 4:32 left in the 3rd quarter.

The 4th quarter saw both teams trading possessions, but neither could find the end zone. Niles made a late-game push, blocking a punt with 2:08 remaining, but ultimately turned the ball over on downs.

In the end, Poland emerged victorious with a final score of 28-14. Poland improved to 6-1 (2-1) and looks forward to their next challenge against Girard, while Niles, now 5-2 (2-1), prepares to host South Range in their upcoming matchup.

BLUE DEVILS PUT PALESTINE AWAY IN STRAIGHT SETS

LISBON OH- Lisbon demonstrated their skill and teamwork, securing a conference sweep of East Palestine. With set scores of 25-13, 25-23, and 25-18, Lisbon showcased their dominance on the court.

Eliza Baker emerged as the star of the match, delivering an exceptional performance that left a lasting impact. Baker contributed 11 points, 14 kills, and an impressive 19 digs, displaying her versatility and ability to impact every facet of the game. Her contributions were instrumental in securing the victory for her team.

Maddie Marshalek was a formidable presence at the net, recording 14 kills. Her ability to deliver powerful attacks and find the right angles added to Lisbon’s offensive firepower.

Lisbon’s defense was solid, with Kyrstin Reckner notching 12 points and an impressive 20 digs. Izzy Lannon showcased her defensive prowess with 22 digs, ensuring that East Palestine had a difficult time finding gaps in Lisbon’s defense.

Stefanee Stacey orchestrated the team’s offense brilliantly, tallying an impressive 35 assists. Her precision in setting up her teammates allowed for the execution of powerful attacks and effective playmaking.

BULLDOGS STAND TALL ON THE ROAD

CANFIELD OH- In an awe-inspiring display of volleyball,  Lakeview stood tall on the road, delivering a resounding sweep of South Range with set scores of 25-16, 25-18, and 25-8. Lakeview’s remarkable performance left no doubt about their dominance on the court.

Mallory Mailach emerged as the driving force behind Lakeview’s success, delivering a breathtaking performance that set the tone for the match. Her contributions were nothing short of exceptional, as she recorded 23 service points and an astonishing 12 aces. Her precision from the service line kept South Range’s defense off balance and proved pivotal in securing the victory.

Reagan Price was the offensive star of the night, amassing an impressive 20 kills. Her powerful attacks and impeccable timing created constant problems for South Range’s defense. Price also contributed with a block, showcasing her all-around skills.

Mallory Mailach’s role as a playmaker was equally outstanding. She tallied 34 assists, orchestrating Lakeview’s offense with precision and finesse. Her ability to set up her teammates for success was a key factor in the team’s performance.

Lakeview’s defense was solid, with Mara Schmader and Molly Stuart each recording 13 digs. Their tenacity in the backcourt ensured that South Range had a difficult time finding gaps in Lakeview’s defense.

GIRARD KEEPS PACE IN THE CONFERENCE RACE

POLAND OH- In a commanding performance on the volleyball court, the Girard team showcased their prowess, maintaining their strong position in the NE8 with a resounding sweep of Poland. The match featured relentless play and precision from Girard, as they secured victory with set scores of 25-16, 25-17, and 25-17.

Girard’s offense was anchored by a dynamic duo at the net, as Nico Cochran and Bailey Walters each recorded an impressive 12 kills. Their relentless attacks and precise placement kept Poland’s defense on its toes throughout the match.

Bailey Walters demonstrated her exceptional setting skills, tallying 23 assists. Her ability to distribute the ball effectively to her teammates was a key factor in Girard’s offensive success.

The serving game proved to be another strength for Girard, with Kylie Carpenter and Bailey Walters each contributing 12 service points. Bailey Walters led the team with an incredible 7 aces, while Erica Teter and Kylie Carpenter each added 2 aces, and Molly Durkin chipped in with 2 aces of her own.

On the defensive front, Nico Cochran showcased her versatility with 8 digs, while Bailey Walters contributed 6 of her own. The team collectively demonstrated their determination in the backcourt.

Girard’s defense at the net was highlighted by blocks from Alexis Pieton, Brooke Perry, Erica Teter, and Nico Cochran. These blocks disrupted Poland’s offensive attempts and showcased Girard’s all-around game.

Izzy Greco led Poland’s offensive efforts with 7 kills, while Bella Khoury recorded 13 crucial digs. Mya Scolt orchestrated the team’s offense with 9 assists.

With this convincing victory, Girard continues to make waves in the NE8 and maintains their pace at the top of the standings. Their fans have every reason to be excited about their prospects as they continue their journey through the season.

COLUMBIANA MAINTAINS PERFECTION

COLUMBIANA OH- In a display of sheer dominance, the Columbiana volleyball team continued their unbeaten streak with a resounding conference sweep of East Palestine. The final scores of 25-18, 25-12, and 25-13 reflected Columbiana’s utter command of the game, leaving their opponents struggling to keep pace.

Columbiana’s standout players put on an impressive performance, solidifying their reputation as a formidable force in the conference. Ellie Jackson was a star of the match, contributing significantly in multiple facets of the game. With seven kills, 11 assists, and five digs, Jackson exhibited her versatility and ability to impact the game from all angles.

Cameron Perkins was another key contributor, showcasing her skills with three crucial kills, nine assists, and four digs. Her well-rounded performance proved invaluable in guiding Columbiana to victory.

Danica Halas demonstrated her prowess at the net with six kills, while Landry Smith added five kills of her own, showcasing the team’s depth in offensive talent.

Ava Heinrich’s performance was nothing short of outstanding. Her three kills were complemented by an astounding 11 aces, seven digs, and a serving performance that left East Palestine in disarray. Heinrich’s serves were simply unstoppable and proved to be a game-changer.

LAKEVIEW CONTINUES STRONGHOLD OF THE NE8

Lakeview’s volleyball team continued their impressive season with a commanding victory over Niles in three sets. The Bulldogs displayed their dominance throughout the match, showcasing their well-rounded skills and teamwork.

In the first set, Lakeview wasted no time establishing control, winning convincingly with a score of 25-7. Their strong service game was evident, with Mallory Mailach leading the way with an impressive 15 service points. Mallory also demonstrated her serving prowess with an outstanding 9 aces.

The second set followed a similar script, with Lakeview maintaining their dominance and securing a 25-9 victory. The offensive attack was well-distributed, with Reagan Price and Molly Stuart each contributing 8 kills. Mallory Mailach continued her stellar performance, tallying 23 assists to keep her teammates in prime scoring positions. In addition to her playmaking skills, Mallory added 2 blocks to her stat line.

The third set saw Lakeview maintain their focus and finish strong, winning 25-12 to secure the match. The Bulldogs’ defensive efforts were noteworthy, with Addy Allen, Molly Stuart, and Mallory Mailach each contributing 6 digs to help keep the rallies alive.

 

CANFIELD TRIUMPHS IN LATEST INSTALLMENT OF BATTLE OF 224

CANFIELD OH- In a thrilling Battle of 224 rivalry matchup, Canfield secured a commanding sweep over Poland, with set scores of 25-19, 25-22, and 25-8. The intense contest between these two volleyball powerhouses provided fans with an exciting display of skill and determination.

Canfield’s performance was marked by standout contributions from several key players. Lauren Miasek was an offensive force, recording an impressive 12 kills and adding 5 aces to her stat line. Carly Flemming orchestrated the team’s offense effectively with 13 assists, while Alexis LeFoer showcased her defensive prowess with a remarkable 20 digs. Meredith Ross made her presence felt at the net, contributing 3 crucial blocks, and Vivian Biro added to the team’s success with 11 assists.

On the Poland side, Olivia Minehart led the offensive charge with 12 kills, demonstrating her prowess as a top-notch hitter. Mya Scott contributed to the team’s offensive efforts with 15 assists, while Bella Khoury exhibited strong defensive skills, tallying 16 digs. Emerson Gomon showcased her blocking abilities with 3 well-timed blocks.

Canfield’s exceptional teamwork and solid all-around performance proved to be the deciding factor in this exciting rivalry matchup. The victory was a testament to their hard work and dedication on the volleyball court.

NITTOLI NEVER STOPS

POLAND, OH –  The Poland Bulldogs have been paced by a talented senior class that looks to make history this season. One senior, Danny Nittoli, with his remarkable speed and agility, has been a force to reckon with as a running back and linebacker. His ability to navigate through opposing defenses with finesse and his relentless tackling prowess as a linebacker have made him an invaluable asset to the Bulldogs. Beyond his athleticism, Danny’s natural leadership qualities have been instrumental in motivating his teammates to push their limits and strive for excellence. His commitment to the sport extends beyond the field, exemplified by his tireless work ethic in the weight room and on the practice field, setting an inspiring standard for his fellow players.

POLAND BULLDOGS FOOTBALL COACH’S CORNER (EP. 5) WITH TOM PAVLANSKY

POLAND, OH – Coming off their first loss of the season, head coach Tom Pavlansky and the Poland Bulldogs (5-1) are ready to put that behind them and move into the new week. The Dogs took on a tough South Range (5-1) team in week six and ended up falling just short, 21-7. Up next for Poland is another tough test as they will travel to Niles to take on the 5-1 Red Dragons on Friday night.

YSN’s own, Steve Leslie had the opportunity to talk with Coach Pav this week at Combine Brothers to talk about their week six match up with South Range, what he and his staff have to do to correct the mistakes and return to the win column this week, and what Coach’s keys to victory are for week seven against the Niles Red Dragons.

SOUTHERN BOUNCES BULLDOGS

SALINEVILLE, OH- Southern Local seized the spotlight during their solitary home football game in a span of five weeks, delivering an impressive 42-7 victory over East Palestine on a memorable Friday evening.

The Indians wasted no time making their mark, as Richie Sloan ignited the scoreboard with a dazzling 43-yard touchdown run in the first quarter, setting the tone at 7-0. Shortly thereafter, Ryan Exline showcased his speed with a remarkable 64-yard touchdown run, further extending the lead. Timmy Potts then exhibited his passing prowess, connecting with Markell Smith on a 31-yard touchdown strike that sent Southern ahead 21-0 by the close of the opening quarter.

The second quarter began with a defensive standout moment when Markell Smith intercepted a pass and dashed an astounding 80 yards into the end zone for yet another Southern touchdown. With a mere 2:24 remaining in the half, Ryan Exline found the end zone once more, this time with a 7-yard touchdown run, culminating in a commanding 35-0 lead heading into halftime.

The third quarter saw Ayden Frischkorn contribute to Southern’s impressive lead with a 20-yard touchdown run at the 9:47 mark.

East Palestine, determined to get on the board, finally found their opportunity with Owen Jurjavcic’s 9-yard touchdown run, putting them on the scoreboard with 8:50 remaining in the game.

Southern High School, now boasting a season record of 3-2, with a league record of 2-1, is geared up for their upcoming clash with Columbiana next Friday. Thanks to Lisbon’s recent upset victory over United, the Indians have surged back into contention and are currently tied for second place in the league alongside Columbiana and United. While Valley Christian maintains their league lead, they still have pivotal matchups against United, Lisbon, Columbiana, and Southern in the immediate future.

Meanwhile, East Palestine, with a season record of 0-6 and a league record of 0-3, is preparing to host Wellsville next Friday in hopes of turning their fortunes around.
