CLIPPERS WIN INSTANT CLASSIC IN POTTERVILLE

EAST LIVERPOOL, OH- Columbiana (10-4) and East Liverpool (7-9) battled for 10 innings on Friday night with the Clippers coming out on top 2-1.  With the score tied at 1 in the top of the 10th, Seth Spooner stepped to the plate with one thing in mind, hit the ball hard somewhere.  Hit the ball hard he did, as he took an inside pitch and parked it over the left-field wall, up the hill, and into the pavilion giving the Clippers the one-run advantage.  Spooner would close out the game himself as he pitched the final three innings of the game to earn the win.

East Liverpool took a 1 run lead in the fourth inning.  The lead looked like it was going to hold up as the Clippers were unable to scrape a run across heading into the seventh inning.  The seventh started out well for Columbiana as Bayden Pipoly would beat out an infield single to get things going.  Joe Wilczak followed with a single to put runners on first and second with no one out.  After a strikeout and a ground ball fielders choice the Clippers were down to their final out with runners on the corners.  Tyler Andersen followed with a hard ground ball to third that the Potters third baseman was unable to handle leading to the tying run for Columbiana.

At the plate, the Clippers managed 10 hits on the day but Potter pitcher Jake Smith did a great job scattering hits and getting big outs when he needed them.  Pipoly led the Clippers with 3 hits.  Spooner added a double to his home run and Tyler Andersen also doubled.

On the mound, three pitchers held the Potters to just one run, but wildness was the name of the day as the Clippers would walk 13 batters on the afternoon.  Alex Eusebio got the start and finished 4 innings allowing 1 run on 1 hit and striking out 1.  Zachary Pleska would pitch the 5th, 6th and 7th innings not giving up a hit while striking out 6.  Spooner finished the final three hitless innings striking out 4.

Columbiana will have a quick turnaround as they head to Girard Saturday morning to take on the Indians.  First pitch is scheduled for 11 AM.

SALEM SNEAKS PAST POTTERS

SALEM OH- With both teams eliminated from the playoffs, Salem and East Liverpool renewed one of the longest standing rivalries in the state of Ohio on Friday Night. After 48 minutes, with little not much score to show, the Quakers came out on top 14-7 over the Potters in the defensive struggle.

Same struck first with a little over a minute left in the 1st quarter on a 47-yard touchdown pass from Jackson Johnson to Blaize Exline, but the Potters would respond in the 2nd with a touchdown strike of their own to tie the game at seven apiece at halftime.
Salem would get on the board again in the 3rd with a short pass from Johnson to Jax Booth for 6 more plus the extra point to take a 14-7 lead, which would prove to be enough to hold on for the win.
The Quaker defense came up with a couple huge stops in the fourth quarter to end the Liverpool hopes of a comeback and preserve the victory.

POTTERS SHINE IN SATURDAY MATINEE

CANFIELD OH- With a big conference matchup with Lakeview looming, South Range looked to sharpen up outside of the conference. East Liverpool brought more than the Raiders could handle however, as they dominated a sweep (25-22 25-20 25-17).

The Potters proved resilient all day. Every time the Raiders string together points, Liverpool would not panic and answer right back limiting the damage. That tenacity was in full show in set one when the Raiders had a 21-17 lead late in the set. Calm cool, and collected East Liverpool responded and grabbed a 23-22 lead, and finished to win the set 25-22.

More of the same thing happened in set two when the Raiders jumped out to a 5-1 lead to start set one, but East Liverpool once again fought right back to tie, and eventually push ahead. They’d go on to win set two 25-20, and use a strong start to cruise in set three 25-17.

Sharnae Wilson was everywhere on the day. She finished with 16 kills and 4 blocks. Addison Galeoti played some under the radar defense collecting a solid 24 digs. Alexa Aldrich showed off her range as a setter and finished with 18 assists.

Izzy Lamparty led the Raiders in kills with 7. Jamie Feren set well in the Raiders 6-2 rotation finishing with 7 assists, she also served up 2 aces. Reagan Irons and Julia Blasko both led with 18 digs.

South Range will regroup on Monday and travel to Boardman.
