DRIVING THE BUS

There’s certain momentum in Bulldog Country these days!  Coach Franklin has the East Palestine Girls Basketball team hitting on all cylinders, and leading the way is one of the teams top rebounders and Senior, Sara Buskirk.  “Buzz” as they affectionately refer to her has been in the program for 4 years and has seen the shift in the culture, and spirit over her tenure.  This year, Sara has jumped at the opportunity of her role on the hardwood and serves as a pillar of the team’s success.

We had a chance to pick her brain after her career-best ballgame and ask her about what makes her tick, and what (and who) motivates her on and off the court.  This week’s East Palestine Player Profile is with Sara Buskirk: DRIVING THE BUS.

BACK TO THE FUTURE

East Palestine’s Parker Sherry is undeniably known for what his contributions are on the football field, and in the community.  However, for his grand finale as a Bulldog, Sherry had decided to lace up his sneakers and return to the hardwood his senior season.

Sherry has been running point for the Bulldogs this year and has brought his aggressiveness into the gym as well.  Not much changes in regards to his game and that includes his jersey number.  Opponents know that when they come into the Dog Pound exactly who is going to be wearing number 10.

YSN’s DJ Yokley caught up with Parker before the holidays to discuss the differences and similarities of the sports he excels in.  Sherry is the subject of this week’s East Palestine Player Profile: BACK TO THE FUTURE.

A FRESH START FOR BERTO

Many may overlook just how big an achievement it is to start a Varsity sport as a Freshman.  When you break it down, though, it’s really an impressive feat.  Think about when you were 13-14 years old, and all the fear of the upperclassmen because they felt so much bigger (and they were.)  For most freshmen, it’s all they can do to stay as far away from seniors as possible.  However, for one special hooper in East Palestine, he’s running with the pack.

Jonathan Bertovich has been training for this season his entire life.  All the extra practice, the AAU, has all led to a starting spot on the East Palestine Varsity Basketball Team.  This isn’t a PR move, this isn’t a rebuilding year, the Bulldogs are expected to be in the thick of the EOAC Basketball Title Hunt, and “Berto” is a big reason for it.

He can shoot from anywhere on the floor and can jump out of the gym on any given night.  Quite simply, Bertovich is making his name known in basketball circles all over.

YSN’s Tim Figley caught up with “JB” to talk about his transition from middle school to the big show.

All that and more on this week’s East Palestine Basketball Player Profile: A FRESH START FOR BERTO

EAST PALESTINE COACH’S CORNER WITH WILL FRANKLIN (EP 2)

Another game, another victory.  That’s the feeling for the EP Girls Hoops program right now.  Coach Franklin and his staff have the girls primed, and locked in on their game, no matter who is sitting on the opposing bench.

However, a couple decent marginal wins for the Lady ‘Dogs as of late, and they haven’t even scratched the surface on their potential this year.

YSN’s DJ Yokley sits in with Coach Will Franklin following the Bulldogs win over Leetonia, and digs into what more is ahead for Bulldog Nation!

Also, find out Coaches favorite song during the Christmas Season.

EAST PALESTINE COACH’S CORNER WITH BILL STANTON (EP 1)

There’s a new lead dog in Bulldog Country this year.  East Palestine hired on Bill Stanton to help revive the winning tradition in East Palestine for basketball.  Stanton has come from other storied programs such as Boardman, Poland, Struthers, and EOAC Rival- Lisbon.

Now with the reigns on one of the most up and coming programs in the region, Stanton looks to secure a foundation of winning this year that will pay dividends for seasons to come.

YSN’s Tim Figley sits down with Coach Stanton for the inaugural edition of East Palestine Boy’s Basketball Coach’s Corner!

EAST PALESTINE GIRL’S BBALL COACH’S CORNER WITH WILL FRANKLIN (EP 1)

Veteran East Palestine Head Coach Will Franklin has been a part of the program for quite some time, and the game that transpired recently against Lisbon in the Dog Pound was enough to give any coach a good night’s rest.

After a 50-49 victory over the Lady Blue Devil’s YSN’s DJ Yokley caught up with Coach Franklin to discuss the progression he’s seen in his time in Bulldog Country, as well as many other topics including what it’s like to coach young teams and transforming them to champions.

Hit the hardwood with all that and more with Episode 1 of East Palestine Girl’s BBall Coach’s Corner with Will Franklin!
