WEST BRANCH WAVES BY WILDCATS

BELOIT OH- The Lady Warriors soccer team made quick work of the Struthers Wildcats on a cold Wednesday night rolling to a 10-0 victory in an OHSAA Sectional Final.  West Branch is now 13-0-3 on the season.

The Warriors scored nine first half goals and tacked on one more in the second half in the victory.  Earning the shutout in goal was the combination of Zoe Sanders and Hayden Mesler.

West Branch had contributions from a number of players including six different goal scorers.  Leading the way were Chloe Dennison and Daphne Snyder who each had hat tricks for the Green and White.  Also scoring were Lauren Gossett, Makenna Lins, Sophia Gregory, and Kennedy Berger.

Lins, Gregory, and Gossett each also had assists while Bri Thomas contributed an assist as well.

With the win the Warriors move on to the District Semifinals and will play host to EBC rival seventh seeded Alliance at 6 PM on Monday October 24th.  Tickets will only be available via the OHSAA.  See the main page for more information when they are available.

WARRIORS WIN THIRD MATCH OVER SALEM TO ADVANCE

BELOIT OH- The Warriors took care of business at home over EBC rival Salem in an OHSAA Sectional tournament winning in three sets 25-17, 25-12, and 25-20.  The win moves the Warriors record to 17-5 on the season and a trip to the sectional finals on Saturday.

West Branch saw contributions from a number of players tonight.  Isabel Martig led the team with 10 points and three aces.  Emily Sprowl added eight points for the winners.  Mikalyn Fitts had 10 kills and five blocks while Claire Brunner chipped in nine kills.  Olivia Showalter had seven kills and Hanna Rush had 15 assists.  Kendyll Kaley was big at the net with two blocks while Ragan Greeneisen and Adel Peters led the team in digs with 16 and 11 respectively.

The 6th seeded Warriors will face 15th seeded Geneva on Saturday at Jefferson High School in a sectional final matchup.  The game is currently scheduled for 3:30 PM and tickets must be purchased online via the OHSAA website.  Check the main page for details regarding ticket purchases once they become available.

BLUE DEVILS BLAST IN TO NEXT ROUND

MCDONALD OH- McDonald has high hopes for tournament time.  The Blue Devils are the 4 seed in the Northeast Division IV district.  They find themselves in the Lisbon bracket. They got their run to a district championship started on Wednesday night with a quick sweep of East Canton.  (25-11 25-4 25-7)

Maria Rasile led the Blue Devils with 11 kills. She also had 8 assists, and 6 digs.  She contributed 7 service aces as well.  Gianna Constantino had the team lead in assists with 13. She grabbed 5 kills and 5 digs to add on to her stat line.  Megan Zajack had 7 aces, and led the team in service points with 21.

McDonald advances to the sectional final on Saturday against the Youngstown Academy for Urban Scholars.  That game is set to begin at 6:00.

 

CANFIELD VOLLEYBALL COACH’S CORNER (EP 2) WITH KRISTA NESBITT

CANFIELD OH- The tournament always brings a sense of urgency to locker rooms. That is especially true for Canfield. Their roster is full of seniors who simply don’t want to say goodbye to their season.  They’ve spent all year sharpening their skills against a brutal schedule. Canfield may have dropped down to division 2, but their schedule still reflects that of a division 1 school. That schedule has zero easy wins on it.  The Cardinals have brought an energetic drive to their practices leading up to tournament time.  They got their first round win over Ravenna and now look forward to a game against Perry.  That will be Thursday at Notre Dame Cathedral Latin.

WESTERN RESERVE VOLLEYBALL COACH’S CORNER (EP 2) WITH KRISIE HUGHES

BERLIN CENTER OH- There are a lot of things in the sports world that seem almost automatic. Western Reserve being good at volleyball has turned in to one of those things. But don’t let that perception fool you, Western Reserve has to work extremely hard to be at the level they are. With some similar faces mixed with new ones Western Reserve has put together yet another solid campaign. The Blue Devils took a first round bye in the tournament and finally know their opponent. The Devils will play Windham on Thursday in Western Reserve.

Head coach Krisie Hughes continued her first season as the head coach at the varsity level. She took time to talk with Anthony Hartwig about just that this week. EVAN SHOWS A LOT OF PROGRESSIONS

CANFIELD, OH- Senior tail back Evan Williams sat down at Cocca’s Pizza to talk about his football and wrestling careers. Williams scored his first career touchdown in the win over the East Golden Bears. Williams talks about how that was one of his biggest goals approaching his senior year, along with how special this year has been. SOUTH RANGE VOLLEYBALL COACH’S CORNER (EP 1) WITH TJ IRONS

CANFIELD OH- South Range has definitely had an up and down season. They have show perseverance through the tough times to not let things spiral out of control. That is a testament to the leadership of the team. They have finished the season rolling on all cylinders and they carried that momentum in to round 1 of the Division III Medina district.  The Raiders opened their run on the road against Columbiana. They shocked the Clippers in an upset victory to advance to the sectional final. The Raiders will play LaBrae on Thursday at Mentor Lake Catholic.

Head coach TJ Irons is back on the sidelines and couldn’t be happier to be with the team. He took the time to talk to YSN’s Anthony Hartwig about the big tournament win, what lies ahead for the Raiders, and much more. CRESTVIEW VOLLEYBALL COACH’S CORNER (EP 2) WITH ALISHA AUER

COLUMBIANA OH- Crestview didn’t miss a beat this season. Coming off a season where they were one of the most dominant programs around, they continued to roll in 2022. The Rebels finished with a 20-2 record on the year, and completed yet another MVAC championship.  They didn’t lose a set inside of the conference.  They lost 2 of their last 4 games though, raising some eye brows. But coach Auer didn’t panic, and neither did her team. They went right back to practice and are ready for a big tournament run.  Crestview will play Waterloo in the sectional final on Thursday at 6:00.

CAMPBELL VOLLEYBALL COACH’S CORNER (EP 2) WITH TYLER ALLEN

CAMPBELL OH- It has been a productive regular season for the Campbell Red Devils volleyball team. This is not the team of the past years.  Last year they won their first tournament game in program history, and they’ve used that momentum to build in 2022 to a 14 win season.  Now they head in to tournament time playing a familiar opponent. The Devils are squared up with United who they knocked out of last year’s tournament.  The Eagles and Devils matchup on Wednesday at Garrettsville Garfield.

CAPTAIN CROOM

AUSTINTOWN, OH – The 2022 high school football regular season will conclude this week across the state of Ohio, and the Austintown Fitch Falcons will honor their seniors on Friday night against the Warren G. Harding Raiders. Arthur Croom, a multi-sport athlete at Fitch, has been a vocal leader for the Falcons on-and-off the. field this season, and will once again try to help guide his squad towards victory.
