EAGLES FLY OVER EP IN PITCHERS DUEL

HANOVERTON, OH— Despite a stellar outing from Cale Moraski, the East Palestine Bulldogs came up just short on Monday, falling 2-0 to United in a tight, low-scoring battle.

Moraski was dominant on the hill, striking out 11 batters and allowing just five hits and two runs over six innings without issuing a walk. Unfortunately for the Bulldogs, two early unearned runs in the first inning — both coming off an error — proved to be the difference.

United’s Parker Newburn was just as impressive, going the distance and tossing a complete-game shutout. The righty allowed only two hits, walked two, and struck out 16 to earn the win.

Phoenix Marvin and Kyler Bourne each collected a hit for East Palestine, but the Bulldogs couldn’t string together enough offense to break through.

Offensively for United, Jackson drove in both runs, while Pratt and Schonauer each picked up two hits. United played clean defensively, committing no errors, with Swanson leading the way with 17 putouts behind the plate.

East Palestine will look to bounce back on Wednesday when they host United in a rematch.

BOARDMAN DEALT TOUGH BLOW TO END SEASON

MASSILLON, OH- The Massillon Jackson Polar Bears ended the Boardman Spartans season  9-0 on Thursday, sparked by a first-inning rally that netted five runs.

Right out of the gate, the Polar Bears capitalized on a Spartan error to grab their first run. The hits and RBIs kept rolling in, with #13 grounding out to bring in another run, Kyle Andrews smacking a two-RBI single, and Kyle Carey adding another RBI groundout to make it a five-run frame.

The scoring didn’t stop there, as Wyatt Fether lifted a sac fly in the third to push the lead to 6-0.

On the mound, Landon Thiel was dominant for the Polar Bears, pitching a near-flawless four innings with just one hit allowed, fanning two and issuing one walk to snag the win. Tyler Kirlik shouldered the loss for the Spartans, surrendering seven runs, four earned, over four innings while striking out three.

The Spartan offense was stifled, with Ben Herrmann managing their only hit of the day.

Andrews was a key performer for the Polar Bears, driving in three runs and anchoring the infield with the most defensive chances. The team’s leadoff hitter, Carter Mottice, was on fire, snagging three hits and swiping two bases, helping to keep the Polar Bears flawless in the field with zero errors on the day.

The Spartans season closes with a final record of 9-11.

SCHIAVI TAKES THEM TO SCHOOL

NORTH JACKSON OH- Everyone came in to the 2022 football season knowing the caliber of quarterbacks that were featured in the area. The Mahoning Valley features maybe the most returning stars under center than we’ve ever seen. Little did we know that Jackson Milton had one waiting in the wings. In Week 1 Jackson Milton’s Alex Schiavi introduced himself with a monster 7 touchdown game.  He has taken the reigns of the quarterback position inside a conference that already features a ton of talent. Schiavi holds his own that is for sure. He has managed to quickly gain the respect of the locker room, and become an incredible leader on the field.  He almost acts as a second coach. He is someone who can definitely be trusted to get his teammates in the right positions. That is why Jackson Milton is on the cusp of one of their best season’s in program history. Through 8 weeks the Jays sit at 6-2.

Schiavi doesn’t care much for personal numbers, but that doesn’t mean he isn’t putting up some seriously impressive ones. Through 8 games Schiavi is 125/186 through the air. That is a completion percentage of 67%.  He has thrown for 1471 yards.  He has a solid touchdown to interception ratio as well with 21 scores and only 6 INT.

Schiavi took the time this week to hop on YSN’s Running Point to talk about his fantastic season.  He talks with Richie Juliano, DJ Yokley, and Anthony Hartwig about his role on the team, his mindset on game days, and much more. Check out the latest Jackson Milton Football Player Profile on YSN!

POLAR BEARS PUT THE FREEZE ON BOARDMAN

BOARDMAN OH-

Boardman (1-2) fell behind early and was unable to rebound dropping a 43-14 decision to the Jackson Polar Bears (2-1) on Friday night.

The Polar Bears would score on its opening possession and then score two more times following Spartan turnovers to take a 19-0 lead 7 minutes into the first quarter.  The Spartans would respond, however, with a nice drive and to yard touchdown run by Tomas Andujar to cut the lead to 19-7.

Unfortunately, that was not enough for Boardman as Jackson went on to score the next 24 points before the Spartans were able to respond with a Willy Torres five yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter to give Boardman 14 for the day.

Defensively, Tequan Bailey recorded his first career interception picking on a pass in the fourth quarter for Boardman.

The Spartans will look to rebound next week with a trip to Howland Friday September 9th.  Kickoff is scheduled for 7 PM.

POLAR BEARS PUT A STOP TO THE TIGERS RUN

MASSILLON OH- Howland came into Tuesday’s district semifinal with all the confidence in the world. They got to this game by beating league rival Canfield for the second time of the season. Standing in their way of a trip to the district championship was the Polar Bears of Massillon Jackson. Two big Polar Bear runs weee the difference as Jackson knocked out the Tigers with a 64-30 win.

The first Polar Bear run came in the first quarter, and leaked into the second. After the game started back and forth, the Polar Bears turned a 7-6 lead into a 19-6 one in the blink of an eye. The Tigers responded by winning the second quarter overall 13-10 and taking a 29-19 deficit into the locker room.

The Tigers came out of the locker room and scored quick to make it a 29-21 game. That however would be their only points from the floor in the frame as the Polar Bears won the third 30-3 and pretty much put the game away.

Senior Taylor Lawrence led the Tigers getting in double figures with 11. Alyssa Massucci finished with 7.

The Tigers finish the season 18-7 and AAC champions. We at YSN want to congratulate the Tigers on an incredible season! Thank you for bringing us on the ride!
