SOUTH RANGE GIRLS BASKETBALL COACH’S CORNER (EPISODE 14 WITH JEFF FISHEL)

History has been made at South Range. For the first time, a Raider basketball team is playing in the regional final. After dominating Champion in the regional semis the Lady Raiders prepare for maybe their biggest challenge yet. The AP 4th ranked team in the state, Elyria Catholic. The Lady Raiders find themselves a breath away from a state tournament appearance. South Range would have its fourth different team at that level since 2015. Everyone feels good about making history, but the message the next couple of days from Coach Fishel is “don’t stop.”

Anthony Hartwig made sure to catch Coach Fishel before their big game against Elyria Catholic on Saturday. They discuss making history, the ripple effects it can happen on the program’s future, and much more. One more win before Columbus Raider fans, get ready for the big game with Episode 14 of Coach’s Corner with Jeff Fishel.

SOUTH RANGE GIRLS BASKETBALL COACH’S CORNER (EPISODE 13 WITH JEFF FISHEL)

The Raiders are district champions yet again. This marks the program’s fourth title in seven seasons. However, no Raider basketball team boys or girls has made it past the regional semifinal. Jeff Fishel thinks this team has a good chance to make history. Standing in their way is Champion. Known for their dominant softball program, Champion flies a little under the radar in Girls Basketball. Make no mistake though the Golden Flashes are a worthy opponent. Coach Fishel describes them as a hybrid of South Range and Poland, which sounds terrifying for opponents.

Anthony Hartwig went down to South Range to catch up with Coach Fishel before practice. They discuss being district champions, the challenge ahead, and much more. Join the Raiders on their quest for history and listen to Episode 13 of Coach’s Corner with Jeff Fishel

SOUTH RANGE GIRLS BASKETBALL CHAMPIONSHIP PREVIEW (WITH JEFF FISHEL)

Everyone is feeling good in South Range. The Raiders have gotten themselves to the district championship. The Raiders will compete for their fourth district championship in seven seasons. However, it would be the first under new head coach Jeff Fishel. A district championship would be a great stamp on his first season at the helm of the program. The Raiders have gotten to this point with two decisive wins. First, they beat East Palestine at South Range to open the tournament. Then, in the district semifinals they silenced Columbiana 58-28.

Standing in the Raiders way is Crestview. The Rebels are coming off a huge upset over top seeded Liberty 69-53. Before that, the Rebels took down Rootstown 56-44. Crestview is hitting their stride at the right time, and that is always a scary advisory to have. Tanner Hoffer and Krista Perry make Crestview one of the best rebounding teams in the area. That fact is not lost on coach Fishel. Rebounding fundamentals will be a point of emphasis in the two days leading up to the game.

The Rebels and Raiders girls sports programs have dominated the division 3 world as of late. The last softball, volleyball, and now basketball district championships have all been between Crestview and South Range.

Who will grab a title this time around? YSN has you covered with a championship preview from South Range head coach Jeff Fishel.

The Struthers district championship is Saturday at Struthers at 7:00.

It’s finally tournament time in South Range. The Lady Raiders had played only one game in the last sixteen days, but it didn’t matter as they looked fresh as ever against East Palestine. Anthony Hartwig caught up with Coach Fishel right after their win against East Palestine. They discussed reflecting on the regular season, taking the next step, and much more. Join the Raiders in their tournament journey and hear from coach Fishel in Episode 11 of South Range Coach’s Corner.

After that, the Raiders return home for senior night against Girard. They’ll honor their lone senior Emily Irons, a night that Coach Fishel has been thinking about more and more.
