BEAVER LOCAL: NOTHING NEW- JUST RENEW

EAST LIVERPOOL, OH- Did you know that currently, the state covers 12.5 percent of the taxes associated with the Beaver Local Renewal Levy?

This is true and if the levy does not pass before it expires this will not be the case taxpayers would have to pick up the other 12.5 percent based on legislation passed in 2013 for a levy that would replace the funding for this one.

The best explanation is if $100 dollars is the cost per mill to the taxpayer, currently, that taxpayer is paying 87.50 and the state is paying 12.50.

For example: in a new levy, the state would no longer pay the 12.50 and the residents would be on the hook to pay the full 100.
This is called the “Homestead Rollback” which was deemed to not be permitted for levies established after 2013.

Beaver Local will also be holding informational sessions called “Coffee and Conversation on May 1st and 2nd at Tim Horton’s in Calcutta.

YSN caught up with Beaver Local Superintendent of Schools, Eric Lowe, for a 1-on-1 sit down to discuss the importance and details of the upcoming vote.

BEAVER LOCAL LOOKS FOR LEVY RENEWAL

Voters in the Beaver Local School District will see a RENEWAL, on the ballot for the district’s emergency operating levy.  An emergency levy is a fixed-sum property tax that generates a specific dollar amount for a specific period of time (5 years). This 4.721 mill emergency levy serves as a limited operating levy and generates a fixed sum of $1,200,000 annually for a period of 5 years. Fixed-sum levy rates are adjusted annually, up or down, to ensure the specified amount of revenue is collected. In other words, the millage rate could decrease over time if there is new construction or property valuation increases.

YSN’s DJ Yokley sat down with Beaver Local Superintendent Eric Lowe to talk about the great happenings at Beaver Local, as well as why the renewal on November 6th is so imperative for the District.

CRESTVIEW LOOKS TO BUILD FOR THE FUTURE

The Crestview Local School District is turning its attention to the future home of all Rebels!

A few weeks ago YSN Founder, DJ Yokley, had a chance to sit down with Crestview Local Superintendent Matthew Manley to discuss the upcoming levy- and help everyone better understand the new levy on the ballot in November.

Up for a vote is an opportunity for assistance from the State of Ohio to secure sound facilities and save taxpayers millions in current and future dollars.  The district can build a new facility for less than the cost of needed repairs of the current building.  In fact, the state will pay 88% off the sale price, and this new home would be more cost-effective than the repairs to the current facility.

Even though it’s not sports related, it certainly affects the student-athletes day-to-day, and we wanted to make sure the vision was crystal-clear.
