WARRIORS STUMBLE IN MINERVA

MINERVA OH- West Branch never got things clicking on Tuesday night on a road trip to Minerva. They needed the win to keep their title hopes alive. However, the Lions had other plans and won the game 2-1.

Tori McKay pitched 5 innings in the circle. She gave up no earned runs on 4 hits and struck out 5. Pittman threw an inning in relief. She gave up 0 earned runs and struck out 3.

Sydney Mercer, Skyler Greeneisen, Ryley Pittman, and Addi Craven all contributed hits for the Warriors. Pittman had the lone RBI.

West Branch will start their tournament run on Thursday as they host Girard in the sectional finals.

 

LIONS HAVE PRIDE IN VICTORY

UNITY OH-  Heartland Christian got a strong win  against Southern on Monday, 6-2.

Heartland fired up the offense in the first inning. Drew Gault grounded out, scoring one run.

Seth Walker led the Lions to victory on the hill. The righty surrendered two runs on four hits over seven innings, striking out nine.

Eric Colussy started the game for Southern. The hurler lasted four and a third innings, allowing four hits and four runs while striking out two. Chuck McCulley and Kaiden Korbel entered the game from the bullpen, throwing one inning and two-thirds of an inning respectively.

Joel Morgan led Heartland with two hits in three at bats. The Lions didn’t commit a single error in the field. Jake Kling had the most chances in the field with nine.

BENSON TIES HOME RUN RECORD AS LEOPARDS ROLL

LOUISVILLE OH- Louisville sophomore Matti Benson tied the single season home run record with her 11th on the season on Monday. The Leopards used her power, and more great offense to cruise to a 13-6 win over Minerva.

Benson went 3-4 with 1 RBI and 4 runs scored.  Brooke Haren went 1-3 but knocked in 3 RBI.  Stevie Barrett went 1-2 and collected 2 RBI.

Katie Heath threw 6 innings of the game. She gave up 1 run on 1 hit and struck out 5.  She only walked a pair.

 

LIONS REIGN SUPREME

LISBON OH- The Heartland Christian baseball team traveled to Lisbon looking to continue to feast on opposing pitching as it had in the early part of the season. Feast is what the Lions did as they used a late inning onslaught to secure the 18-3 victory over the Blue Devils.

Heartland struck quickly in the 1st inning behind  back to back doubles from Drew Walker and Jake Kling making it 3-0.  Joel Morgan would add an RBI single, and Jake Walker would add an RBI Sac Fly making 5-0 Lions in the 5th.

Lisbon would get back in the game in the bottom half of the 5th, Daimen McCormick contributed an RBI single and Hunter Sturgeon’s RBI double cut the Heartland lead to 5-3.  That would be as close as the Blue Devils would get as the Heartland hitters would explode for 13 runs in the 6th inning sealing the victory. Drew Gault would lead the Lions attack on the evening going 3-5 with 5 RBI.

Jake Walker would contribute 3 RBI, while Nate Garzanich, Jake Kling, and Will Morgan all collected 2 hits each.  Hunter Sturgeon finished with 2 hits and an RBI in defeat for the Blue Devils.  Seth Walker collected the win on the hill going 6 innings and striking out 4.

Lisbon (2-4) looks to collect itself Wednesday hosting Wellsville.  Heartland (4-1) has a great matchup with Crestview (5-0) 7pm Wednesday at Cene Park in Struthers.

LIONS NOT EASILY TAMED

UNITY OH- Heartland Christian put up eight runs in the second on its way to an 11-1 victory over Chaney on Monday. Heartland’s offense in the inning was led by Seth Walker, Jake Walker, Drew Gault, Jake Kling, Brett Walker, and Walker, all knocking in runs in the inning.

The Lions got on the board in the first inning when Walker singled on a 3-2 count, scoring one run.

Heartland put up eight runs in the second inning. Their offense in the inning came from walks by Walker and Gault, singles by Walker and Walker, by Walker, and a double by Kling.

Luke Rafferty took the win for Heartland. The righty allowed one hit and one run over two innings, striking out one. Nate Garzanich and Walker entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief.

Kling started the game for the Lions. The righthander allowed zero hits and zero runs over one inning, striking out three and walking zero

Heartland saw the ball well today, racking up nine hits in the game. Garzanich, Kling, and Walker all had multiple hits for Heartland Christian School Varsity. Walker, Kling, and Garzanich each collected two hits to lead.

LIONS SWING THEIR WAY TO VICTORY

Scorekeepers were kept busy today during a high-scoring contest between Heartland Christian and Edison where Heartland prevailed 11-7.

The Lions got things started in the first inning. An error scored one

Drew Walker was the winning pitcher for Heartland. Walker went five innings, allowing four runs on eight hits and striking out four. Will Morgan and Brett Walker entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief.

Heartland totaled nine hits. Walker and Drew Gault all collected multiple hits. Gault and Walker all had two hits to lead.

WEST BRANCH SECURES PROGAM WIN NUMBER 800

MINERVA OH- A look in the history of West Branch girls basketball will show you consistent success. From league championships, to state tournament appearances the Warriors have always been a dominant force in girls basketball. The program reached a pretty impressive milestone on Saturday as they beat Minerva 50-28 and secured their program’s 800th win.

Anna Lippiatt led the Warriors on the day with 17 points. Also in double figures for West Branch was Livvie Showalter with 10. Sophie Gregory was an important part of the Warriors offense chipping in 9 points. Sydney Mercer added 7.

West Branch looks ahead to Wednesday as they travel to Marlington. A win over the Dukes would cause a three way tie atop the EBC with the Warriors, Marlington, and Salem all with 2 losses in the conference.

WARRIORS SEND MINERVA PACKING

BELOIT OH- West Branch was not the kindest of hosts to EBC rival Minerva on Wednesday night. The Warriors were able to roll over the Lions, and send them on their way. West Branch won by a final score of 56-20.

It was a balanced Warrior attack that paved the way to victory. Four Warriors found themselves in double figures. Hannah Egli led the way with 12 points. Anna Lippiatt chipped in with 11 points. Both Livvie Showalter, and Sophie Gregory were also in double figures with 10 points.

West Branch will travel to New Philadelphia on Wednesday December 29th.

BRAVES CHOP DOWN HEARTLAND CHRISTIAN

KINSMAN OH- The Badger Braves improved to 4-2 after a 73-69 victory over Heartland Christian in Friday night‘s action.

Heartland held a 43-32 lead at the midway mark but Badger out-scored the Lions 25-10 in the 3rd period.

The Braves were led by Jack Lender with 26 points and Bradley Hamilton added 15 markers.

The 6-2 Lions were again paced by Jonathan Bertovich with 28 points. and Sam Osborn adding 11 points.

Heartland will visit Leetonia next Tuesday evening.

HEARTLAND CHRISTIAN BOYS BASKETBALL COACH’S CORNER (EP 2) WITH JOSH SCOTT

COLUMBIANA OH- Heartland Christian got their season off to an amazing start. They won their first four games of the season with an offense that seems nearly unstoppable. Every one of their first four games they have scored 69 points or more. Their defense has played well too, making these games runaways. The Lions did lose a heartbreaker to Jackson Milton at the buzzer to move to 4-1.

Head coach Josh Scott took the time to join YSN’s Running Point to give us a inside look on the Lion’s hot start. He talks with Ty Bartell, and Anthony Hartwig about his offense, what the team’s mindset has been, and much more. Episode 2 of coach’s corner with Josh Scott is live.
