ROCKETS CLEARED FOR LIFT OFF


SEBRING, OH – The Lowellville Lady Rockets came into Sebring Thursday night looking for their first league win of the season. Lowellville had great defensive play as they did not allow any points in the 2nd quarter, and also used depth scoring to push them to a dominating league win over Sebring, 51-20.

 

For Lowellville, Savannah Procick led the team with 13 points. Both Sammie Moore, and Serinna Tych added 10 on the night for the Rockets.

 

For Sebring, both Devyn Reggi and Kiera Weekly led the way with 6 points each on the night.

 

Lowellville will move on to host Mineral Ridge on Monday, January 10th. Don’t miss it on YSN!

MAKE IT FOUR IN A ROW FOR SPRINGFIELD

LOWELLVILLE OH- The Tigers pulled out a huge MVAC road victory 58-54 over Lowelville on Tuesday night. The win is the fourth straight for the Tigers.

Adam Wharry led the way with 22 points and 4 assists. Beau Brungard solid again with 13 pts, 6 rebounds, and 5 assists.

The Tigers overcame a hot shooting Rocket squad that hit 12 3 pointers. Anthony Lucente led them with 15 points, while Vinny Ballone had 12.

The Tigers have a big rivalry match to watch out for after Christmas. They’ll play Tuesday at home against South Range.

TIGERS KEEP EYES ON THE PRIZE

LOWELLVILLE OH- Springfield didn’t slip up at Lowellville on Monday night after a competitive start with the Rockets. Eventually the Tigers would be way to much and Storm away from Lowellville for a 61-36 win keeping them atop the MVAC.

Tigers were lead by Jacey Mullen with a solid 24 points and Jameka Brungard contributed with 17.

Lowellville was lead by Savannah Procick and Samantha Moore with 11 each.

The Tigers will venture outside of the league on Wednesday as they travel to Columbiana to square off with the Clippers. Lowellville will also move off of the league in their next game, traveling to Heartland Christian on Monday.

 

JAYS SURVIVE SCARE FROM LOWELLVILLE

LOWELLVILLE OH- Jackson Milton got all they could handle on Monday night against Lowellville in an early season MVAC battle. After leading 13-3 through a quarter of play, the Blue Jays had to hold off a furious 2nd half rally. The Blue Jays stayed in a tie for first place with a 45-42 win.

Kylie Wilson led the Jays with 17 points on the night. Carla Blancafort was also in double figures with 11 points for the Jays. Chelsea Williams and Ava Darney both finished with 8 points.

Both teams hit the road on Thursday as Jackson Milton travels to Sebring, and Lowellville goes to Western Reserve.

KIERNAN, JFK LEAD DIVISION VII ALL-STATE HONOREES

COLUMBUS, OH- Warren JFK’s Eddie Kiernan was honored on Monday by being selected as First-Team All-State as a defensive lineman.

The 6’1, 235 pound senior was the only first-teamer in the YSN family, but didn’t have to look far for another all-state selection- in fact, he didn’t even have to leave the locker room.

JFK kicker, John Dragos was tabbed as the All-Ohio second-team honoree, and Antwan Brown, Sammy Hindi, Michael Mauro, Ambrose Hoso, Alex DeSalvo, and Patrick Valent were honorable mention selections

Sebring’s Noah Frederick was selected as a second-team All-Ohio in the offensive backfield after a successful campaign with the Trojans, while his brother Elijah made the team as the third-team special teamer.

Vinny and Mike Ballone and Vinny Layko of Lowellville, Wellsville’s Tyler Stanley, Camdyn Hoskin of Windham, Mike Miller of Leetonia all represented The Valley as All-Ohio Honorable Mention’s as well.

Congratulations to all these young men on successful seasons, and best of luck in all their future endeavors.  You’ve represented your family, communities, and the area at the highest level.

ROCKETS JUMP OUT IN FRONT

LOWELLVILLE OH- The Crestview Rebels could not dig themselves out of a 12 deficit after the opening quarter and dropped a 58-53 contest against  the visiting  Lowellville Rockets on Tuesday.

Lowellville’s  Vinny Ballone had a game-high 20 points and his teammate Anthony Lucente added 15 points to pace the 1-0 Rockets.

The Rebels were led by Anthony Cusick and Jack Yerkey each with 14 points.

Lowellville will stay on the road on Friday as they travel to Girard. Crestview will be back in action Tuesday as they go to United.

LOWELLVILLE GIRLS BASKETBALL COACH’S CORNER (EP 1) WITH LISA MODELSKI

LOWELLVILLE OH- The Rockets we’re one of the few area teams last season to have no seniors on their roster. While that made some struggles in 2020, it will lead to Ron’s of experience in 2021. Lowellville is all of the sudden one of the more experienced teams in the MVAC. A MVAC that has become pretty open to a new team taking the title. With a great community behind them, Lowellville promises to be an exciting squad this season.

Head coach Lisa Modelski stopped by YSN’s Running Point this week to help us preview the team. She talks with Ty Bartell, and Anthony Hartwig about the team’s experience, what style of basketball they plan on playing, and much more. Episode 1 of Coach’s Corner with Lisa Modelski is live.

LOWELLVILLE BARRAGES THE BOMBERS TO ADVANCE

WELLSVILLE OH- The Rockets got their tournament run started on the right foot Tuesday night. Lowellville shot past Windham in 3 sets to get themselves to the sectional final. (26-24 25-12 25-11)

Sammie Kelly shined bright yet again for the Rockets. She finished with 6 kills, 6 digs, and 24 assists. She also served up 12 aces. Haley Cutter shared the team lead in kills getting 6 herself. Sammie Moore led the defense with 20 digs.

Lowellville advances to the sectional final on Thursday as they’ll take on top seeded Wellsville. Start time is slated for 7:30 at Wellsville.

ROCKETS OFFENSE TAKES OFF

Lowellville, OH- The versatile Lowellville Rockets hosted the Mineral Ridge Rams looking to continue their winning ways by any means necessary. The Rockets would come away with a commanding victory. Quarterback Vinny Ballone would score 6 combined touchdowns in the winning effort with Wide Receiver Mathew Lucido catching 4 touchdown passes. Mineral Ridge Quarterback Mark Bunch would score 2 rushing touchdowns for the Rams. Lowellville beats the Rams 56-28.

The Rockets started off the game with two rushing touchdowns. First touchdown coming from Running Back Marcus Dubos and the second by Ballone from 97 yards out. The Rams would answer with a 10 yard rushing touchdown from Bunch to make the game 7-14. Lowellville responded with two consecutive passing touchdowns by Ballone to Lucido to increase the Rocket lead and make the game 26-7.

The Rams wouldn’t go away in the second quarter. Rams Running Back Nathan Rohrman rushed into the endzone to help Mineral Ridge. Then, Bunch would throw a 25 yard touchdown pass to Aaron Myers to climb their way back into this game and make the game 21-26. The Rockets would take off from there. Ballone and Lucido would connect two more times for paydirt in the second half while Ballone would rush into the endzone one more time. Lowellville wins 56-28. Lowellville (7-2) is scheduled to face Western Reserve while Mineral Ridge (3-5) will host Waterloo. Catch all the games live on YSNLive.com/Live.

LOWELLVILLE FOOTBALL COACH’S CORNER (EP 1) WITH ANDREW MAMULA

LOWELLVILLE OH- Lowellville has been a program that has surprised the eyes of everyone. However, the Lowellville faithful knew they had something special with this group of boys.

Brady Bunfofsky, Anthony Lucente and Vinny Ballone are a group of juniors that are all dynamic playmakers for The Rockets.

Highlighted by a strong offensive line front that features Kyle Miller, Anthony Lucido and Max Jones. Lowellville looks to use its explosive offensive to blast off come playoffs.

As Coach Andrew Mamula has been instrumental in building The Rockets back into serious contenders.
