MOHAWK MAGIC; WARRIORS WALK IT OFF AGAINST UNION

BESSEMER, PA- Patience paid off multiple times on Thursday afternoon for the Mohawk Baseball Team.  With every punch that the Union squad had, Mohawk seemingly had an answer.  Especially when it came to the final at-bat of the game.

Sophomore Aidan Bowser was tasked with coming up in the clutch- and did just that, but not without a little bit of drama.  Bowser came in as a pinch-hitter with the bases loaded and the game knotted at five, only one thing was missing- nobody reported the switch to the umpires.  So in the heat of the moment, a pitch was delivered for “ball one,” only to have the Scotties Manager report the illegal substitution.  The umpires gathered to sort things out and gave a detailed explanation awarding Union a strike on Bowser, rather than a ball- and then substituting Bowser into the game with a strike on his ledger.

All of that was enough to raise the heart rate of the fans, but not Bowser- he remained calm and watched the next four pitches miss the mark- and the celebration began in a 6-5 victory for the Warriors.

Union opened up an early lead in the second inning when an error scored one run for Union.

Mohawk evened things up at five in the bottom of the sixth inning. Jay Michael Wrona singled on a 3-2 count, scoring one run.

Lucas Cummings earned the victory on the hill for the Warriors. The righthander lasted one inning, allowing one hit and zero runs while striking out one and walking one. Marc Conti threw four innings in relief out of the bullpen striking out six.

Shane Roper took the loss for Union. The pitcher went two innings, allowing one run on three hits, striking out four, and walking one.

Jacob Werner started the game for the Warriors. Werner went two innings, allowing three runs on two hits, striking out four, and walking one.

Tyler Staub started the game for Union Area. The bulldog went four innings, allowing four runs on seven hits and striking out three.

Mohawk racked up 12 hits on the day. Cummings and Wrona all had multiple hits for the Warriors. Cummings led Mohawk with three hits in four at-bats.  Sophomore AJ Verdi went 1 for 2 with a double and a pair of walks.

Staub went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead Union in hits.

Mohawk (2-0) will return to action Monday, April 4th against Hopewell- game time is set for 4:30.
