MOONEY OFFENSE TOO MUCH TO KEEP UP WITH

STRUTHERS OH-  Trent Litman was locked in on Friday, and JFK felt every bit of it. The Mooney standout drove in five runs on three hits, powering the Cardinals past the Eagles 13-6 in a game that turned into a hit parade.

Litman cracked the scoreboard open in the third with a bases-loaded single that brought home three. He followed it up an inning later with a two-run double and added another RBI knock in the sixth for good measure.

Mooney got rolling in the second when Aidan Radinsky drove in the game’s first run. JFK answered back in the third on an Andrew Lapolla groundout to tie things at 1-1, but that was the last time it was close.

The Cardinals dropped a six-spot in the bottom of the third and followed it up with five more in the fourth. Andrew Bushey plated two with a single, then Litman doubled in another pair to stretch the lead beyond reach.

Tyler Wilson grabbed the win for Mooney, tossing four innings and holding JFK to four runs (three earned) on six hits. Vince Gentile came on in relief to close things out. JFK’s Michael Bartoe took the loss after giving up five runs in just over two innings.

Mooney racked up 13 hits in the win. Kaden Reese, Sam Owens, and Radinsky each had multi-hit nights, while the defense turned a clean double play.

JFK swung it well, too—10 knocks in all. Freddy Bolchalk did damage from the seven-hole, going 2-for-4 with three RBIs. Taggart Carfangia, Landon Snyder, and Trevin Rinck each chipped in with two hits, and the Eagles also turned a double play defensively.

FIRST ROUND NO PROBLEM FOR MOONEY

YOUNGSTOWN OH- The Cardinals came out flying Thursday night, steamrolling Green 17-3 in round one of the playoffs. From the opening whistle, it was all Mooney.

Sophia Rotunno put on a show—five goals, three dimes, six ground balls, and nine draw controls. Total takeover. Natalie Blasko and Molly Simons each cashed in three goals and dished out an assist. Olivia Scott tacked on two, while Lexi Italiano, Gabby Hardaway, Brooke Campbell, and Dara Bogan each buried one.

Frankie Cassese kept things moving with an assist and five draw controls, while Lainey Hunt anchored the back line with three forced turnovers. Leah Hudak and Lexi Flood were all over the turf, scooping up four ground balls apiece. Next up: Mooney hits the road Monday for a 6 p.m. showdown at Lake Catholic.

MOONEY OUT FLANKS THE WARRIORS

BELOIT OH-  The Cardinals exploded for seven runs in the top of the seventh to slam the door on West Branch in a 13-1 rout Tuesday. Johnny Brenner put the exclamation point on the frame with a three-run shot to center, capping off a rally that included an RBI double from Taco Verroco, a bases-loaded walk to Aidan Radinsky, and a two-run knock by AJ Olesh.

Mooney jumped out early with a first-inning RBI single from Ford Stacy, then added another in the third when Will Petty ripped one down the line to make it 2-0.

On the bump, Stacy got the job done. The righty tossed five strong innings, gave up just two hits and an unearned run, struck out three, and walked one. Vince Gentile came in and shut the door over the final two frames, scattering one hit with two punchouts.

The Mooney offense kept the pressure on, racking up 13 hits and drawing seven walks. Verroco, Stacy, and Trent Litman each had a pair of knocks. Brenner and Stacy both finished with three RBIs, while Kaden Reese kept things moving on the bases with two swipes. Andrew Bushey also chipped in with a pair of walks.

West Branch scattered just three hits on the day — one each from Anthony Perry, Boston Mullinix, and Dominic Fotheringham. Next up, the Cardinals are back home Thursday with Hubbard coming to town.

CLIPPERS HIT A POWER SURGE

COLUMBIANA OH-  Columbiana didn’t waste any time making a statement Monday, unloading on Mooney in a 15-0 blowout fueled by a monster day at the plate and a lights-out performance in the circle.

The fireworks started early—Columbiana launched two homers in the first inning, the first of which was a three-run shot to dead center that set the tone. That was just the beginning.

The second inning turned into a track meet. The Clippers hung a seven-spot that featured a mix of RBI singles, a bases-loaded walk, and a no-doubt three-run bomb to center. By the end of the frame, it was 12-0, and the rout was on.

Just for good measure, Columbiana added another long ball in the third—a solo blast that cleared center field and put the exclamation point on a dominant day.

In the circle, it was all business. Five innings, four hits allowed, zero runs, five strikeouts, and no free passes. Pure command.

Columbiana’s lineup was relentless, piling up 17 hits. The leadoff stick set the tone with a perfect 4-for-4 day, while several others chipped in with multi-hit efforts. The Clippers also swiped four bags and didn’t commit a single error in the field.

Mooney managed four hits, but couldn’t string anything together against Columbiana’s pitching. Tough day at the office for the Cardinals, who just ran into a red-hot squad firing on all cylinders.

BUSHEY STAYS HOT; CARDS ROUT SALEM

STRUTHERS, OH= Cardinal Mooney handled business in a big way Thursday, blanking Salem 10-0 behind a red-hot day at the plate from Andrew Bushey and a lights-out start from Ford Stacy.

Bushey was locked in, going a perfect 3-for-3 with a double and two singles, driving the Cardinals’ offense from the jump. Mooney got the scoring started in the first with a knock from Kaden Reese, then kept it rolling in the second as both Bushey and Ryan Reese drove in runs with base hits. By the third, it was 4-0, and Mooney was just getting warmed up.

On the mound, Stacy was in full command. The righty tossed five shutout innings, scattering just two hits while fanning five and walking two. Taco Verroco came in to finish it off with a clean inning, striking out a pair and keeping the shutout intact.

Mooney racked up 12 hits on the day, with Bushey and Ben Oddis each collecting three and Will Petty adding two of his own. The Cardinals didn’t just hit—they ran wild, swiping 15 bags and drawing six walks to keep the pressure cranked. Bushey, Verroco, and Reese each had multiple steals in a game that saw Mooney do just about everything right—clean defense, aggressive base running, and timely hitting.

Salem mustered just two hits—one each from Braydon Van Dyne and Troy Gibson—who also swiped a couple bags of his own.

Mooney now sets its sights on Saturday’s home showdown with Canton Central Catholic, riding high with the bats humming and the arms dealing.

MOONEY MAKING WINNING A REGULAR THING

STRUTHERS OH-  Cardinal Mooney made quick work of Salem on Thursday, cruising to a 10-0 shutout with Andrew Bushey setting the tone at the plate and the pitching staff locking things down.

Bushey was a tough out all day, going a perfect 3-for-3 with a double and two singles, spraying the ball around and causing problems every trip to the box. Mooney came out swinging, jumping on Salem early with a pair of runs in the first, then kept tacking on from there.

The Cards piled on in the second with RBI knocks from Bushey and Ryan Reese, and never looked back. Taco Verroco added a run with a groundout in the third, and Mooney just kept the pressure on with smart at-bats and aggressive baserunning.

Ford Stacy got the start and shoved—five innings of two-hit, no-run ball with five punchouts. Verroco closed the door with a clean frame, adding a couple more Ks for good measure.

Mooney racked up 12 hits in all, with Bushey and Ben Oddis each collecting three. Will Petty added two of his own. The team wasn’t just hitting—they were flying on the basepaths, swiping 15 bags on the day. Bushey, Verroco, and Reese each snagged multiple.

No errors in the field and six walks at the plate—just a clean, all-around performance from the Cardinals.

Salem managed just two hits and turned a double play, but couldn’t string anything together. They’ll regroup, while Mooney gets set to host Canton Central Catholic on Saturday.

MOONEY ESCAPES NAIL BITER WITH SPARTANS

YOUNGSTOWN OH- Mooney girls lacrosse edged out Boardman in a nail-biter Tuesday night, pulling off a 13-12 win in a back-and-forth battle.

Natalie Blasko was a force, piling up 5 goals and owning the draw with 5 controls to keep Mooney in rhythm. Molly Simons and Lexi Italiano each knocked in a pair, while Frankie Cassese and Sophia Rotunno added one apiece and chipped in with an assist each. Arianna Stamp capped the scoring with a goal of her own.

In net, Liv Hunt stood tall with 9 saves, shutting the door when it mattered most. Mooney hits the road tomorrow for a showdown at Canfield.

MOONEY BUILDS UP BIG WIN OVER BULLDOGS

STRUTHERS OH-  Cardinal Mooney came out swinging and never let up, cruising past Lakeview 7-1 on Tuesday in a clean, all-around performance.

Mooney jumped on the board in the first thanks to a two-run double and a bases-loaded walk that made it 3-0 before Lakeview had a chance to settle in. They tacked on another in the second off a fielder’s choice and kept the pressure on in the third with a double and RBI single to push the lead to 6-1.

On the bump, Ben Oddis was dialed in. He went six strong, giving up just four hits and an unearned run while striking out five with no free passes. Taco Verroco came in to slam the door, tossing a clean inning with a punchout.

Mooney racked up hits throughout the lineup, with multiple knocks from Petty, Reese, and Litman. Reese also swiped a pair of bags as Mooney flexed their speed, stealing four total. Stacy drove in two and kept things moving in the middle of the order.

Lakeview scattered four hits and made no errors in the field, but couldn’t string together enough offense to threaten. They’ll look to bounce back next time out. Mooney moves on to a big showdown Thursday against South Range. Lakeview also has a matchup with South Range next on their schedule.  They’ll travel to the Raiders on Monday.

CARDINALS HAVE A SENIOR NIGHT TO REMEMBER

YOUNGSTOWN OH-  Mooney made sure Senior Night was one to remember, steamrolling Green 15-2 on Wednesday.

Lexi Italiano and Sophia Rotunno lit it up with four goals apiece, setting the tone early and often. Leah Hudak was all over the field, dropping in two goals, dishing out a pair of assists, and controlling the pace. Natalie Blasko chipped in with a goal, an assist, and cleaned up four draw controls.

Gabby Hardaway, Arianna Stamp, Molly Simons, and Stella Sardich each found the back of the net to round out the offensive clinic. In the cage, Ava Weeks held it down with 9 big saves to keep Green quiet. Mooney’s right back at it Thursday as they host Chardon—momentum definitely on their side.

MOONEY SHOWS GUTS AGAINST THE LEOPARDS

YOUNGSTOWN OH-  The Mooney girls lacrosse squad gutted out a 10-9 win over Louisville Monday night, leaning on some big-time efforts on both ends of the field.

Molly Simons led the charge with four goals and five ground balls, while Natalie Blasko kept the offense humming with three goals, a helper, and eight draw controls to keep Mooney in possession all night. Sophia Rotunno chipped in two goals, an assist, and five ground balls to keep the pressure on.

Lexi Italiano added a goal and an assist, and Gabby Hardaway punched one into the back of the net to round out the scoring.

In the cage, Liviah Hunt and Ava Weeks split time, combining for 11 saves to lock down the win when it mattered most. Mooney is back in action Wednesday, hosting Green at 6:30 p.m.
