SPARTANS COME OUT VICTORIOUS

BOARDMAN OH- Boardman opened up their home slate by beating Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin Varsity Lions 6-1 on Thursday.

Gabi Sferra toed the rubber for the Spartans. She lasted seven innings, allowing five hits and one run while striking out an impressive 14 batters.

Alex Mould was on the rubber for Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin. She allowed 12 hits and six runs over six innings, striking out nine and walking one.

Boardman racked up 13 hits in the game. Natalie Davis, Ava Freeborough, Cami Goske, and Tori Strines each managed multiple hits. Davis led with four hits in four at bats. Boardman was also sure-handed in the field and didn’t commit a single error. Maddie Wymer had the most chances in the field with 16.

Boardman is scheduled to go back on the road Friday night as they travel to Green. First pitch is slated for 5:00.

FITCH POSTS WIN OVER LIONS

AUSTINTOWN OH-

The boys soccer team was victorious in their first match of the season, securing a 2-1 victory over Notre Dame Cathedral Latin on Saturday afternoon at Greenwood Chevrolet Falcon Stadium.  In the process they provided new head coach, Anthony James with his first career at Fitch

Senior Nick Tibolla opened up the scoring for the Falcons sneaking a well-placed shot past the opposing goalkeeper for a 1-0 lead that Fitch took into halftime.

Cathedral Latin capitalized on an equalizer on a multi-shot sequence in the second half that saw Ftich turn away ptential goals before the Lions found the back of the net.

A Lion foul in the penalty area late in the game awarded the Falcons with a penalty kick.  Senior Josiah Berni took the penalty kick and was intially denied by the Lion goalkeeper, but followed up the deflected rebound and scored to give the Falcons a 2-1 advantage that they held onto for the final margin of victory.

The Falcons will be back at Greenwood Chevrolet Falcon Stadium on Tuesday, August 23 when they host Canton Glenoak at 7:15 PM in their next match.

CARDINALS SOAR PAST NDCL

CANFIELD OH-The Canfield Cardinals hosted Notre Dame Cathedral Latin in week one of the high school football playoffs. The Cardinals got off to a hot start and never looked back.

Canfield kicked the football away to start the game, and got a stop right near midfield. The Cardinals were pinned inside their own five, until Broc Lowry busted away for a 93 yard touchdown run to get the Cardinals on the board. The Cardinals went on a 35-0 run to end the half and went into the locker room up by 35.

The Cardinals would get on the board one more time in the second half, but gave up two late touchdowns to win the ballgame 42-14.

Broc Lowry finished the ballgame with 148 yards rushing and 130 yards passing while completing 5-6 passing attempts. Senior tailback Mike Crawford had a great night with multiple touchdowns to guide the Cardinals on the ground. Canfield will host Hubbard at home next Friday at 7. Catch all the action on YSN!

LEOPARDS BOW OUT AGAINST NDCL

LOUISVILLE OH- Louisville played their 12th home playoff game last night in their program’s first matchup with NDCL. In a defensive struggle a late score propelled the Lions over Louisville 14-7.

Tyler Jackson went 13/29 with 118 yards and a touchdown. Zach Seaman caught 3 passes for 53 yards. Brock Pickens caught 3 for 22 yards and a touchdown. Louisville ran the ball 35 times for 77 yards.

The Leopards finish the season at 2-5. There is still available dates for the Leopards to play non playoff games up until Week 10. Stay tuned for matchups.
