RAIDERS START FAST, AND FINISH STRONG

NILES OH- In a thrilling boys’ soccer showdown, the sixth-seeded South Range squad delivered a scintillating first-half performance, securing a crucial 3-2 victory against the third-seeded Warren JFK team. It was a match characterized by early offensive firepower and a late defensive stand, leaving fans on the edge of their seats.

South Range took command early, with three first-half goals that ultimately proved to be the difference. Logan Butcher, Barnabe Duhautois, and Joe Heckstedde etched their names on the scoresheet, showcasing their prowess in the attack. Matt Fryfogle and Maverick Birkmire provided the crucial assists that set up these pivotal goals.

Collin Engle, the goalkeeper for South Range, played a pivotal role in maintaining the lead, making two important saves to stave off Warren JFK’s late resurgence.

Warren JFK displayed resilience in the second half, with Nick Ryan and Riley Littler scoring to narrow the gap. However, it was not quite enough to secure a comeback. The JFK goalkeeper, Nico Ciminero, played valiantly with 6 saves, keeping his team’s hopes alive.

With this hard-fought win, South Range advances to the next stage of the tournament, where they will face the fifth-seeded Kirtland squad. The match is scheduled for Saturday at Hubbard Memorial Stadium, with kickoff set for 11 a.m.

South Range continued to pour on the points in the second quarter, as Tristan Toy made an impressive 7-yard rushing touchdown. But the highlight of the quarter came when Toy connected with Gaven Nagy for a stunning 94-yard touchdown reception, making it 28-0 at halftime.

The third quarter saw South Range’s Aidan Dominguez rushing for a 1-yard touchdown, with Logan Butcher once again converting the extra point, taking the score to 35-0. The quarter wrapped up with a 19-yard touchdown reception by Brady Crumbacher, followed by another successful kick by Logan Butcher.

Hubbard, on the other hand, couldn’t find a way to respond and was held scoreless throughout the game.

Ttristan Toy was 10/17 for 175 yards, and two scores while carrying the rock six times for 63 yards and a score.  Blake Ewert finished with 126 yards on 11 carries and a score.  Aidan Dominguez had 4 touches for 31-yards and a score.
