SALEM WINS FIFTH STRAIGHT, WALK OFF AGAINST UNITED

SALEM, OH- The Quaker baseball team capped off an impressive week Friday night by beating United in 10 innings to capture their 5th win in as many days.

Junior starter Seth Seddon pitched 6 innings for the Quakers giving up 1 earned run on 10 hits while striking out 7 United batters.

Fellow junior Joey Watson would come in for Seddon in relief and pitch 4 scoreless innings giving up 0 runs and striking out 6.

A couple of errors defensively, a double by Parker Hydrick and a base hit by Britalon led to a 3 run top of the first by United. The Eagles would add another run in the third on a 2 out RBI single by McIntosh to make it a 4-0 lead. That would be the last run United would score.

The Quakers were just getting started.

Salem would get on the board in the 6th when freshman Brock Young singled in Watson and sophomore Nick Coletta would score on a throwing error to third on the same play.

The Quakers would be down to their last strike in the seventh against United ace Shane Black who had come on in relief during the previous inning to shut the door. He forgot to lock it however as with 2 strikes, freshman Darius Beck knocked the door open with a base hit up the middle scoring freshman Blaize Exline and sophomore Lane Rhodes to tie the game at 4.

Back and forth the two teams would go in extra innings with trading minor threats in a couple of innings but neither team could capitalize on them. Then in the bottom of the 10th with the bases loaded and two outs, senior Bryce Owen took 4 straight balls to walk off the Eagles and earn the Quakers their 5th win in as many days.

The Quakers improved to 9-1 at Ray Reisbeck field on the year and 14-11 overall. (7-5 in the EBC) the 6th seeded Quakers will host 11 seed Struthers in the sectional tournament on Monday with the first pitch set for 5 pm.
