URSULINE COACH’S CORNER WITH LARRY KEMPE (EP 9)

A tough loss to rival Cardinal Mooney last week to a very good Cardinal team has the Irish coming back refocused and ready to finish strong in Week 10.

Throw the records out the window!  It’s an Irish battle in the Ice Castle!

What does Coach Kempe say to fire up the troops?  How does a win this week set things up for 2019?  Is there extra motivation?

Find out all that and more on this week’s Ursuline Football Coach’s Corner with Larry Kempe!

TO SERVE AND PROTECT

Typically the guys up front aren’t in the forefront.  However, Ursuline’s Senior-Malcom Joyner is no ordinary big man.  He has exceptional talent that is trumped only by his humility and passion to lead and serve others.

Being the starting left tackle on a varsity football team comes with its own set of pressures and responsibility.  In fact it was Sandra Bullock’s character in The Blindside, Leigh Anne Touhy who said “The first check you write is for the mortgage, but the second is for the insurance. The left tackle’s job is to protect the quarterback from what he can’t see coming. To protect his blind side.

Our Steve Leslie caught up with this sensational young man and third-year starter for the Irish.  Ursuline’s Player Profile for this week is Malcom Joyner: TO SERVE AND PROTECT

COOL HAND LUKE

If you put “Money” into your Twitter handle, you had better be on point.  For Ursuline Irish Senior, Luke Pipala- LP Money is the straw that stirs the drink!

The receiving corps for the Irish have been flooded with talent this year and leading the way has been the golden 12 streaking across the field on Friday nights.  But that’s not the whole story for Luke, as he has an incredible work ethic, and a great head on his shoulders that has helped the Irish to success over his tenure in green and gold.

The biggest headache for opposing coaches is the fact that no matter how big the stage, Pipala stays steady under pressure.  He’s got the slow heartbeat during the heat of battle.

URSULINE FOOTBALL COACH’S CORNER WITH LARRY KEMPE (EP 8)

A tough loss in Spartan Stadium last week to a very good Boardman team has the Irish coming back refocused and refreshed in Week 9.

Throw the records out the window!  It’s Mooney Week at UHS!  The Holy War is upon us, and a win tonight for the Irish stamps the season a success no matter the win-loss column.

What does Coach Kempe say to fire up the troops?  How does a win this week set things up for the finale?  Is there extra motivation?

The drama has been building for a month and a half for the Ursuline Irish.  Every week on the road, every week in contention, and every week coming up just shy of a victory.

That all changed in Week 7.

Coach Kempe and the Irish make their 2018 Debut in the Ice Castle, and come out with a big victory against Bishop Watterson!

What does Coach Kempe say now?  How does the win inspire weeks 8, 9, and 10?

URSULINE COACH’S CORNER WITH LARRY KEMPE (EP 6)

Progression is the name of the game right now for our Irish!  It was so obvious last Friday that the Ursuline Irish are turning the corner.  They brought the battle right to the front door of the Louisville Leopards and came up just short of their first victory.

The Irish have grown leaps and bounds over the last 6 weeks and now prepare for their first home game of the season.  NOTHING gets the team over the top like a little home cooking!

How does Coach motivate the team going into the backstretch?  What can be learned from last week, and pushed toward Bishop Watterson this week?

Weather wreaked havoc all across the Valley last Friday, but none more than the Irish and Raiders facing off in Warren.  The game was postponed Friday night, forcing the Irish to come back on Saturday at 1pm to battle one of the area’s top teams.

Coack K was able to keep the team focused during the game, but the Irish came up short again against their cross-town rivals.

What does the Coach take away from a situation out of the control?  What can be learned from last week, and pushed toward Louisville this week?

NOT JUST ANOTHER DAIVON

Ursuline has long been known to have top-tier football players and student-athletes, but if you look a little closer, they’ve been Runningback High for as long as anybody can remember.

The next back in the evolution of the Irish Backfield is here!

Junior Daivon Jones has arrived and is ready to make his mark on the history books.  Speed like lightning, and power like thunder, Jones has the capabilities to take over a game behind his powerful line!

YSN’s Brooke Meenichan caught up with Jones and discusses all his interests, and his vision on the 2018 season.  This week’s Ursuline Irish Player Profile is: NOT JUST ANOTHER DAIVON

With a young squad, it’s imperative that a team becomes battle-tested early!  That’s exactly what Coach Kempe’s troops are doing.

It’s been a tough few weeks, but the short memories will prevail in the end.  The Irish scored a pair of touchdowns late on Saturday night, and have a great string of success on tape.

Coach Kempe sits down with YSN General Manager, Steve Leslie to discuss the X’s and O’s, and the importance of the education the kids are getting at Ursuline.
