TIGERS COME BACK FOR THE WALK OFF

By Noah Ricks

HOWLAND TOWNSHIP, OH – The Howland Tigers baseball team instilled a sense of self-belief despite all of the obstacles heading their way. That belief would help them turn around a game against bitter archrival Warren Harding, in which they would battle from a one-run deficit and steal one from the Raiders in a 3-2 walk-off victory.

The first inning was neck-and-neck as both squads were able to cash in a run each. Harding, however, would clamp up on defense with four consecutive shutout innings. They would also pick up another run in the top of the third as they led 2-1 heading into the bottom of the sixth.

Bode Biggin was a machine for the Tigers all night long as he was able to tag up three important base hits. Two of those hits resulted in him being able to pick up two crucial runs on the night, including the tying run in the bottom of the sixth. The seventh inning, however, was when the Tigers stepped up. With the go-ahead run charging for Harding, a quick out at first would give them one final chance. As Keaton Perry was able to get on base, sub batter Sully O’Donnell stepped up to the plate for the first time of the night. A huge hit into left field would send Perry home, as O’Donnell’s walk-off RBI sealed the dramatic finish.

The Tigers (5-4) will look to sweep the Raiders (5-6) tomorrow night as both teams will wrap up the home-and-home series out at Harding. Howland, with their never-say-quit attitude, proved why you can never count them out when the going gets tough.
