UNITED BATS POWER THROUGH DOUBLE HEADER

MALVERN OH- Bats were blistered as United beat Malvern 17-11 on Saturday. United collected 22 hits, while Malvern had 10. Samantha Lippiatt collected five hits in six at bats in the win. Lippiatt tripled in the second inning, singled in the first inning, doubled in the fifth inning, and singled in the seventh inning.

United got on the board in the top of the first inning after Lippiatt singled, scoring one run, Matilyn Zines doubled, scoring two runs, and Kendall Erb drew a walk, scoring one run. They added to their early lead in the top of the second inning after Lippiatt tripled, and Chloe Angelo grounded out, each scoring one run. The Hornets tied the game in the bottom of the second thanks to a double by Megan Kuba, and a single by Haley Wilkinson. A single by Angelo gave the Eagles the lead back, 8-6, in the top of the third.

Malvern tied the game in the bottom of the fourth thanks to an error, and a double by Izzy Warth. A single by Angelo gave United the lead again, 11-9, in the top of the fifth. Warth singled on an 0-2 count, which helped Malvern  tie the game back up  at 11 in the bottom of the fifth.

In the top of the sixth, the Eagles broke up the tie when Madelynn Lucas doubled, scoring two runs. Then a single by Zines followed to extend the lead to 14-11.

Zines earned the win for United. She gave up 10 hits and 11 runs (five earned) over seven innings, striking out eight and walking four. Ashlyn Bush took the loss for Malvern Varsity Hornets. The starting pitcher went two and two-thirds innings, giving up five runs (four earned) on six hits, striking out one and walking three.

United piled up 22 hits in the game. Angelo drove the middle of the lineup, leading with four runs batted in. The 3-hole hitter went 4-for-5 on the day. Joshlynn Irey, Zines, Lucas, and Brittany Miller each collected multiple hits for. Erb led with three walks. Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, amassing six walks for the game. Angelo stole two bases. United ran wild on the base paths as a team, accumulating six stolen bases for the game.

GAME 2

United deafeated Malvern in Game 2 of their double header on Saturday 15-4 thanks in part to nine runs in the fifth inning. Brittany Miller singled, scoring one run, Kiley Hetherington grounded out, scoring one run, Allyson Lacey laid down a sacrifice bunt, scoring one run, Chloe Angelo singled, scoring one run, Grace Coffee singled, scoring one run, Madelynn Lucas singled, scoring one run, Matilyn Zines singled, scoring two runs, and an error scored one run.

United got on the board in the top of the second inning after they scored on a passed ball, and Joshlynn Irey singled, each scoring one run. They added to their early lead in the top of the third inning after Malvern Varsity Hornets committed an error, and Lucas stole home, each scoring one run.

Coffee earned the win for the Eagles. The righty allowed four hits and four runs (three earned) over five innings, striking out two and walking four. Ashlyn Bush took the loss for Malvern. The starting pitcher went five innings, surrendering 15 runs (four earned) on 13 hits, striking out two and walking three.

United collected 13 hits in the game. Angelo went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead in hits. Zines and Angelo each drove in two runs. Irey, Samantha Lippiatt, and Miller each collected multiple hits. Zines and Angelo each stole multiple bases. United stole seven bases in the game as a team.
