URSULINE CHASES DOWN THE COWBOYS

YOUNGSTOWN OH- Ursuline stormed past Chaney tonight 82-62 in a Steel Valley Conference battle.

It was what can only be described as a “shootout” from Chaney High School and was filled with bucket after bucket.

The Irish got out to the early lead 21-14 on the Cowboys in thanks to its well-rounded scoring attack.

Jayden Payne and Jace Riccardo both hounded the glass all night, creating second chance opportunities for their team on the way to victory.

They were combatted by the Cowboy trio of Matt Jones, Latrell Kimbrough, and Austin Brown.

Those three stayed aggressive and got the game down to just a nine-point Irish lead in the third quarter.

However, it wasn’t enough as the Irish maintained its sizeable halftime lead throughout the contest after using its 22-10 second quarter to push the lead to 20 any never look back.

Ursuline outscored Chaney 17-15 in the fourth quarter to hold off any comeback attempt.

The Irish was paced by Geno Lucente who led with a game-high 18 points.

Payne (17) and Deshaun Will (10) were the other Ursuline Irish in double-figures.

Riccardo, Jaylen Gunther, and Jared Klucinec each had 9 points apiece as well.

For the Cowboys, Brown led them with 18 points, while Jones (16) and Kimbrough (10) also scored in double-figures.

Ursuline (12-2) extends its winning streak to 6 games and will travel to Austintown Fitch on Friday, 2/2 to take on the Falcons.

For Chaney (5-6) will look to get back to even with a home matchup against Cardinal Mooney on 2/2.
