WARRIORS COMEBACK FALLS SHORT AGAINST EAGLES

Story by Larry Jennings
Ashtabula, OH- In an exciting CVC showdown, the Edgewood Warriors faced off against the Geneva Eagles, but despite a strong hitting performance, the Warriors fell short, succumbing 11 to 8 in a gripping match on Monday.
Despite an impressive 13 hits compared to Geneva’s 11, the Warriors couldn’t secure the win they desired. Aiden Hernandez emerged as a standout performer for the Edgewood side, delivering an outstanding five hits in five at-bats throughout the game. Hernandez showcased his hitting prowess with singles in the first, second, fourth, fifth and seventh innings, but unfortunately, it wasn’t enough to clinch victory for the Warriors.
Geneva wasted no time asserting their dominance, jumping to an early lead in the top of the first inning. Shea Arkenberg’s walk, followed by Keen Arkenberg being struck by a pitch, set the stage for Logan Queen’s crucial single and Austin Murphy’s groundout, with each play contributing to Geneva’s initial run tally.
The Eagles extended their lead in the second inning, adding three more runs courtesy of RBI singles by Curtis Meyer and Keene Arkenberg, further solidifying their advantage on the scoreboard.
Despite Geneva’s early surge, the Warriors rallied and managed to tie the game at 8 in the bottom of the fifth inning, with Logan Kray’s pivotal single playing a key role in the comeback effort.
However, Geneva refused to relinquish control, reclaiming the lead in the top of the seventh inning. Shea Arkenberg’s double, followed by doubles from Curtis Maier and a sacrifice fly by Logan Queen, proved to be the decisive plays that sealed the victory for the Eagles.
Logan Queen’s stellar pitching performance earned him the win for Geneva, as he showcased his prowess on the mound with four strikeouts and only one walk over two innings. Meanwhile, Riley Baldwin took the loss for Edgewood, despite a valiant effort over five innings in relief.
Although the Warriors displayed remarkable resilience and determination, with notable contributions from players like Logan Kray, Caleb Johnson, and Alex Sperduto, who each drove in two runs, it wasn’t enough to overcome Geneva’s determined offensive display.
With both teams exhibiting tenacity and skill throughout the game, the rematch between the Edgewood Warriors and the Geneva Eagles promises to be another thrilling encounter, as the Warriors look to bounce back and secure a victory in their next showdown on Tuesday.
