BIG SIXTH INNING GIVES BOARDMAN A BOOST

Springfield stayed in it until the end, but Boardman pulled away late in a 6-1 victory on Monday. The game was tied at one with Boardman batting in the bottom of the fifth when Griffin Widrig singled on a 0-1 count, scoring one run.

Springfield got things moving in the second inning, when Nate LaBoy singled on a 1-2 count, scoring one run.

Boardman scored four runs in the sixth inning. Their big inning was driven by a single by Marco Stilliana, by Stephen Conti, and a double by Jason Triveri.

Gavin Hyde led the Spartans to victory on the pitcher’s mound. The hurler lasted two and two-thirds innings, allowing zero hits and zero runs while striking out one and walking one. Patrick Hubert threw two innings in relief out of the bullpen.

Kolten Ruark took the loss for the Tigers. The hurler went two and two-thirds innings, allowing two runs on three hits and striking out two.

Guy Young started the game for Boardman. Young lasted two and a third innings, allowing three hits and one run while striking out two Alex Rothwell started the game for Springfield. The righthander went two innings, allowing zero runs on one hit, striking out three and walking one

AJ Stallsmith led Springfield with two hits in three at bats.

Triveri went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Boardman in hits.
