CARDINALS COME UP SHY IN BATTLE OF THE BIRDS

MYRTLE BEACH, SC-In a thrilling matchup on Thursday, the Canfield Cardinals displayed resilience and determination, but it was the Robert C. Byrd Eagles who emerged victorious with a late surge, clinching a 7-6 win.

The game remained closely contested throughout, with Canfield staying neck and neck with Robert C. Byrd until the final inning. Despite out-hitting their opponents nine to seven, the Cardinals couldn’t quite seal the deal as the Eagles capitalized on a crucial moment in the top of the seventh inning, scoring two runs off a wild pitch to snatch the lead.

Leading the offensive charge for Canfield was David Murphy, who delivered an outstanding performance with three hits on the day. Murphy’s contributions at the plate kept the Cardinals in the game, showcasing his prowess as a key hitter for the team.

Although Canfield took an early lead in the bottom of the first inning, courtesy of errors by the Robert C. Byrd defense and a clutch RBI groundout by Bobby Levonyak, the Eagles quickly responded, regaining the lead in the third inning with a timely single by Rylan Rock.

Despite a valiant effort from Canfield’s pitching staff, including starter Joey Gabriel and relievers Trent Rarick and Michael Patellis, it was Robert C. Byrd’s Logan Frum who earned the win with a strong performance on the mound. Frum’s ability to shut down Canfield’s offense in the late innings proved pivotal in securing the victory for the Eagles.

On the offensive side, Rock and Saverio Destito led the charge for Robert C. Byrd, each driving in two runs to propel their team to victory. Anthony Corsini also contributed with two hits for the Eagles, further bolstering their offensive firepower.

Despite the loss, the Cardinals demonstrated their resilience and fighting spirit throughout the game, and they will undoubtedly regroup and come back stronger in their next outing.

As they prepare to take on Georgetown for their next game on Friday, Canfield will look to build on the positives from this hard-fought contest and continue their pursuit of victory in the games to come.
