CARDINALS HOLD OFF LATE HOWLAND RALLY

STRUTHERS OH- Canfield nabbed the lead late in the game in a 9-5 victory over Howland on Wednesday. The game was tied at one with Canfield batting in the bottom of the fifth when AJ Havrilla singled on a 3-1 count, scoring one run.

Havrilla led the Cardinals to victory by driving in four runs. Havrilla went 3-for-4 at the plate. He drove in runs on a double in the first, a single in the fifth, and a double in the sixth.

Canfield opened up the scoring in the first inning, when Havrilla doubled on a 1-0 count, scoring a run.

The Cardinals scored five runs in the sixth inning. Their big bats in the inning were led by doubles by Havrilla and Nate Shaw and a sac fly by Ben Slanker.

Landon Beidelschies earned the victory on the pitcher’s mound for the Cardinals. The lefty went five innings, allowing one run on two hits and striking out seven. Jake Grdic threw two innings in relief out of the bullpen.

Canfield collected ten hits on the day. Havrilla, Beidelschies, and Josh Juliano each collected multiple hits.

Anthony Massucci led Howland Tigers with two hits in four at bats.
