BADGER SECURES NAC TITLE

KINSMAN, OH- In a commanding performance, the Badger High School girls’ basketball team clinched at least a share of the Northeastern Athletic Conference (NAC) title by defeating Mathews with a resounding score of 64-15. With this victory, Badger advances to an impressive 15-2 overall record, remaining unbeaten in conference play at 12-0.

Badger asserted its dominance from the opening tip-off, controlling the game on both ends of the court. The victory not only showcased the team’s prowess but also secured at least a share of the NAC title, marking a significant achievement for the program.

Katie Grexa emerged as the offensive standout for Badger, leading the scoring charge with an impressive 22 points. Grexa’s scoring outburst was complemented by Brianna Lendak, who contributed 9 points, and Gabriella Miller and Sophie Stanhope, adding 8 and 6 points, respectively.

The well-rounded offensive contributions underscored Badger’s depth and versatility, making them a formidable force in the NAC.

With this victory, Badger has set the stage for a potential outright clinch of the NAC title. The team is now scheduled to face a crucial matchup against PV on Thursday, offering them an opportunity to secure the title outright.

COWBOYS DOMINATE URBAN SCHOLARS

YOUNGSTOWN, OH- In a resounding victory, the Chaney High School Cowboys asserted their dominance at home, triumphing over the Academy for Urban Scholars Hawks with a final score of 80-28. The Cowboys showcased a stellar performance, with key players making significant contributions to secure the win.

The Cowboys set the tone early, establishing a commanding lead in the first quarter with a score of 16-4. This early advantage proved crucial as Chaney continued to build on its momentum throughout the game.

Dewayne Thompson emerged as a standout player for the Cowboys, leading the team with an impressive 14 points. His scoring prowess played a pivotal role in Chaney’s offensive strategy, creating opportunities and keeping the scoreboard ticking.

Additionally, Cliff Scott and Asaunte Mickel made significant contributions on the boards, with both players securing 7 rebounds each. Their presence in the paint and ability to control the boards provided the Cowboys with valuable second-chance opportunities.

United has experienced a revival reminiscent of the golden era between 2008 and 2013, and Addy, along with her fellow seniors, has been instrumental in restoring the program’s success.

Addy’s journey as a point guard has been one of continuous growth and refinement. With key ball handlers departing last season, the responsibility of orchestrating the offense now rests squarely on her capable shoulders. EAST PALESTINE RUNS THE FLOOR ON BEARS

EAST PALESTINE, OH- The Lady Bulldogs spread the wealth in the points column on Monday night in a win against their EOAC foe, the Leetonia Lady Bears in a 47-17 victory.

Leila Martin led all scorers with 19 points all over the floor while going 4/8 from the free-throw line.  Gabby Andre also found herself with double digits in scoring with 10, including two from long range and going 2/2 from the line.  Jasmine Ludt scored six, while Marah Zimmerman, and the freshmen tandem of Marley Blythe and Alivia Magness each posted four points in the contest.

For Leetonia, Breyle Merritt scored 7, while she was supplemented with Taylor Chapman’s five points, Star Neel’s three tallies, and a bucket from Alee Keyes.

EP improves to 8-11, and 6-4 in the EOAC, while Leetonia drops to 1-17 and 0-11 in the conference.

BEAVERS FALL PREY TO OAK GLEN

EAST LIVERPOOL OH- Displaying dominance on Monday, Oak Glen emerged as a force to be reckoned with, pulling away from Beaver Local with a final score of 56-39.

Beaver Local’s offensive efforts were led by Torie Druschel with 8 points, followed by Addison Eells contributing 7 points, and Calli Sorge and Mallory Miller each adding 6 points.

Beaver Local (5-12) will now set their sights on a rivalry night as they gear up to travel to East Liverpool on Thursday, aiming for a strong performance and a positive outcome in their upcoming matchup.

POTTERS FIGHT FALLS JUST SHORT

EAST LIVERPOOL OH- In a closely contested battle on Monday, East Liverpool put up a great fight against Steubenville Central Catholic but eventually fell short, concluding the game with a score of 55-48.

Reagan Edwards led East Liverpool’s offensive efforts with an impressive 17 points. Supporting the charge were Kenzie Headley with 10 points, Kenzie Walker contributing 7 points, Dacianelle Andrews and Ally Furman each adding 6 points.

East Liverpool (9-8) is determined to bounce back from this defeat and will have the opportunity to do so on Thursday when they host arch-rival Beaver Local, seeking to regain momentum and secure a victory.

BLUE DEVILS TOO HOT FOR VALLEY CHRISTIAN TO HANDLE

LISBON OH- In a decisive matchup on Monday night, Lisbon proved to be more than Valley Christian could handle, steamrolling to a commanding 32-12 victory.

Morgan Lively led Lisbon’s offensive charge with an impressive 17 points. Lylah Brown contributed 2 points, showcasing exceptional performance with 18 rebounds and 5 steals.

Valley Christian’s offensive efforts were led by Foyhan Levy, who contributed 6 points.

Lisbon (4-11) will take their momentum on the road, traveling to face Leetonia on Thursday. Meanwhile, Valley Christian (1-14) is set to play against Columbiana on Thursday, aiming for a positive turn of fortunes in their upcoming matchup.

CRESTVIEW STILL RIDING HIGH

COLUMBIANA OH- Maintaining their unblemished league record, Crestview displayed dominance on Monday night with a commanding 60-14 victory over Brookfield.

Addison Rhodes led Crestview’s scoring onslaught with an impressive 26 points, supported by Luvrain Gaskins contributing 12 points, Lexi Blower with 9 points, and Emily Downey adding 5 points to the team’s total.

Brookfield’s offensive efforts were led by Mya Jumper, who contributed 6 points.

Crestview (18-0) aims to preserve their perfect record as they face Newton Falls on Thursday. Meanwhile, Brookfield (6-11) looks to regroup and get back on track as they face LaBrae on Thursday, seeking a positive turn of fortunes.

CLIPPERS SPEED PAST WELLSVILLE

WELLSVILLE OH- Continuing their impressive performance, Columbiana maintained their hot streak on Monday night with a commanding 50-29 victory over Wellsville.

Averi Marshall led Columbiana’s scoring effort with 12 points, closely followed by Megan Moser with 11 points and Ellie Venezia contributing 10 points. Ava Heinrich added 5 points to the team’s total.

Wellsville’s offensive highlights came from Bella Poppelriter, who secured an impressive 17 points.

Looking ahead, Columbiana will stay in league action on Thursday as they host Valley Christian, aiming to extend their winning streak. Wellsville, on the other hand, will remain at home on Thursday, welcoming United in hopes of a strong performance.

SOUTHERN SPOILS THE EAGLES PLANS

Hanoverton, OH
– It was a key game inside the EOAC which featured two of the premier teams as United hosted Southern Local in front of a packed house of Fans. United was looking to remain tied at the top of the standings with Columbiana. However, the Indians started fast from the jump on both sides of the ball and cruised to a 70-40 victory. Southern has now swept United in the season series.

 

Southern Local’s Ashley Shroades was spectacular as always. She led the Indians in scoring with 31 points. Her sister Allyssa was just as good knocking down 6 three pointers scoring 20. Mackenna Jones also added key contributions playing tough defense and was one point shy of double figures with 9 points.

 

United struggled with Southern’s zone the entire game. They were also outrebounded by a sizable margin. Grace Knight led the Golden Eagles with a solid 16 points. She was able to find her offensive rhythm throughout the game. Grayson Kidder also finished in double figures with 11. 

 

With the win, Southern improves to 9-5 (8-2 in the EOAC). They will head back home to host Lisbon this Thursday. United drops to 11-5 (9-2 in the EOAC). The Eagles will travel to Wellsville on Thursday. As of right now Columbiana climbs into sole first place inside the conference with an (8-1 EOAC record).
