CANFIELD OH- Here comes another season of Canfield basketball, and girls basketball coach Matt Reel is starting yet another season at the helm. It will be a very productive season for the Cardinals as they return bundles of talent to their roster. They will feature a very trying schedule to prepare them for the Division 1 tournament. Canfield is one of the smallest Division 1 girls teams in the state. That means of course, they have to expose themselves to the style of play they will see. They open the season Saturday November 20th at home vs Perry.

SPRINGFIELD GIRLS BASKETBALL COACH’S CORNER (EP 1) WITH JOHN MATISI

NEW MIDDLETOWN OH- The Tigers are beginning a new era of basketball on the girls side of the hardwood this year. John Matisi will go from assisting the boys team, yo heading up the girls program. Springfield returns a ton of experience this season, and talent. The thing coach Matisi wants to see is consistency and confidence. The MVAC has become a lot more wide open and the Tigers might just be a team that can take the throne.

NEW MIDDLETOWN, OH – Head coach, Sean Guerriero, and the Springfield Tigers have advanced into the regional semi-finals of the OHSAA state football playoffs after defeating the #6 seed, Creston Norwayne, 41-13, last Saturday night. This week, the Tigers will hit the road and travel to Alliance for a neutral site match up with the #2 seed, Columbia Station, this Saturday night.

YSN’s own, Steve Leslie, was able to catch up with Coach G this week via Streamyard to discuss the Tigers second round match up against Norwayne, what he and his staff think Springfield has to do in the semi-finals to win and advance, what the keys to the game are to see the Tigers eliminate Columbia Station and move on to the regional championship, and so much more!

WARREN OH- The JFK Eagles had an incredibly exciting season last year. In the midst of building a special program, the Eagles took a big step in 2020 getting to their second straight regional finals, and this time around really pushing the power house Richmond Heights program to the edge. Now, the Eagles will look to make another big step as their quest to a regional championship begins soon.

HANOVERTON OH- United girls basketball took a lot of people off guard last season. The young scrappy Eagles team flew high to a successful season becoming a serious contender in the EOAC. Now, that young team has grown up a little bit. The Eagles return nearly everyone from last year’s roster, and are strapped up for a great season. They have also put together a massive non conference schedule to sharpen their teeth along the way.

POLAND OH- Things are going to look pretty different this year at Poland girls basketball games. The ever prolific Jackie Grisdale, as well as Ella Harrell and Liz Herdman are gone from graduation. One thing that will never change though, is the united mentality that the Bulldogs will play with. This year is one where you’ll see that family atmosphere shine through more than ever before, and coach Nick Blanch couldn’t be prouder of the culture his team has created.

This week, the Cards will play at Girard in what is the most anticipated game of the season so far. Canfield will take on the Chardon Hilltoppers on Friday night with a trip to the regional championship on the line.

YOUNGSTOWN OH- Who is ready for basketball in the steel city? We sure are! That’s why we are previewing the Cardinal Mooney basketball season with head coach Carey Palermo. The Cardinals come into this season with a mix of varsity experience, and players who will get their first taste of varsity action. Both will be expected to stand out for Mooney. Coach Palermo is using this time to solidify his varsity rotation, although he acknowledges that there is never a true set rotation, and this group will be able to plug in players where it’s needed.

LABRAE GIRLS BASKETBALL COACH’S CORNER (EP 1) WITH MANDY ROWE

LEAVITTBURG OH- The LaBrae girls basketball team looks like they might be one of the more experienced teams in the north just the MVAC but the entire coverage area. They return multiple top scorers for another season, and will definitely be hard to defend. With such a high scoring offense, the Vikings will have to sure you their defense. That will be the goal during these couple weeks leading up to the season. LaBrae’s head coach Mandy Rowe is one of the more respected coaches around, and she’ll have the Vikings ready for success.
