GIRARD OH- It’s officially basketball season in Girard, and the girls program is ready to take the next step. They return a ton of leadership, much of which is coming off an extremely successful volleyball season. The Indians are hoping that success breeds succeeds. With a NE8 that is primed for a new contender, Girard is in a position to make some moves.

URSULINE BOYS BASKETBALL COACH’S CORNER (EP 1) WITH KEITH GUNTHER

YOUNGSTOWN OH- The Ursuline boys basketball program is led by one of the most well respected coaches in the area. When you add that to the fact to that the Irish are returning some very highly talented players, and athletes coming off a extremely successful football season, things are looking bright for Ursuline. SPRINGFIELD FOOTBALL COACH’S CORNER (EP. 6) WITH SEAN GUERRIERO

NEW MIDDLETOWN, OH – Head coach, Sean Guerriero, and the Springfield Tigers have advanced into the regional championship game in the OHSAA state football playoffs after defeating the #2 seed, Columbia Station, 30-13, last Saturday night. This week, the Tigers will travel down to Sebo Stadium in Salem for a neutral site match up with the #4 seed, Mogadore, this Saturday night.

YSN’s own, Steve Leslie, was able to catch up with Coach G this week via Streamyard to discuss the Tigers semi-finals round match up against Columbia Station, what he and his staff think Springfield has to do in the regional championship to win and advance, what the keys to the game are to see the Tigers eliminate the Mogadore Wildcats and move on to the state final four!

LIBERTY GIRLS BASKETBALL COACH’S CORNER (EP 1) WITH DEIDRE WATSON

LIBERTY OH- When you talk about exciting basketball in the area, you have to mention the Liberty girls group. They play with energy and athleticism that is hard to match. Last year, they needed maturity. As they say, with time comes experience and the Leopards come into this new season with a lot of it. There is plenty of talent on the roster, and they’ll need every bit of it to make waves in a stout MVAC.

WARREN OH- Sometimes the way you end a season can propel momentum into the next. The Champion boys team is hoping that is the case in 2021. After getting healthy as the year went on, the Flashes were playing really well the final month or so in the season. They return a lot of key members of that team as well. They will lean on those returning leaders to try and navigate what promises to be a high level of play in the MVAC.

YOUNGSTOWN OH- The city of Youngstown has come to be known as “Grit City.” Not too many programs in the city embody that mentality more than the East girls basketball program. They will make it known every night just how hard they work. They are returning a core group of leaders that will show their younger athletes what it means to have that work ethic. No one will be looking forward for their games against East, because the Golden Bears are never going to stop coming at you.

NEWTON FALLS OH- Some of the best work in this world comes from the shadows when no one is looking. That is kind of the feel of the Newton Falls girls program. Even though they’re a program that has seen plenty of success, they seem to be overlooked going into this season. Everyone knows the MVAC will be a tough league to navigate, it would be a mistake to sleep on the Tigers, because the Tigers never sleep.
