JEFFERSON OH- The NE8 seems to be a wide open conference in 2021, and a talk with a lot of coaches in the league will quickly tell you that Jefferson is a threat to end up at the top. They return a ton of big scorers, and vocal leaders that will turn the Falcons into a formidable foe.

When talking about Brookfield, they have a huge challenge in front of them with a very competitive MVAC. JACKSON MILTON BOYS BASKETBALL COACH’S CORNER (EP 1) WITH STEPHEN PROCOPIO

NORTH JACKSON OH- Jackson Milton graduated a big chunk of their production from a season ago. But there’s no reason to worry if you are a Blue Jays fan. They have a mix of hungry players who will be getting an opportunity to step up on varsity, and players who put in some quality varsity minutes a year ago. In a MVAC that is always tough and competitive, Jackson Milton looks to be a serious contender.

URSULINE GIRLS BASKETBALL COACH’S CORNER (EP 1) WITH BERNARD SCOTT

YOUNGSTOWN OH- Ursuline girls basketball has a proud and successful tradition. They have been led by some of the most well respected coaches in the area. Their new head coach fits that mold perfectly. Bernard Scott is a big name in the girls basketball community and he will be taking command of this power house program in the 2021 season. The Irish graduated a lot, but never have to worry about talent. With a tough schedule in front of them, they will be tested night in and night out.

CANFIELD OH- For the last eight years, South Range boys basketball has been led by the legendary John Cullen. They found plenty of success under his leadership, but he has decided to step away. But don’t worry Raider Nation! There aren’t too many bigger names in area basketball coaching than the newest head of the Raiders Will Klucenic. He was on staff under coach Cullen, so even though it is his first year, Coach Klucenic knows exactly what tools he has for this season.

WEST BRANCH BOYS BASKETBALL COACH’S CORNER (EP 1) WITH MICHAEL BROWN

BELOIT OH- There is a standard of excellence in every athletic program at West Branch. A quick look around their gym at all the bakers on the wall will reveal that. When talking about the boys basketball team, they come in to the 2021 season as the two time defending EBC champions. They also return a big percentage of their scoring from that team. Head coach Michael Brown heads into his third season with the Warriors, and with every season his philosophy and culture takes a tighter hold.  So don’t you expect the Warriors to take any steps back this season.

AUSTINTOWN OH- Success runs deep in the halls of Austintown Fitch. They say success breeds success, and that doesn’t ring more true than the basketball team. The Falcons hope to build off the excitement and leadership of the football season. The Falcons bring back a lot of players who know how to score. Despite losing Todd Simons, there are plenty of reason to be excited if you are a Fitch fan. The Falcons will look to consistently feed the nest this year against a tough schedule.

HUBBARD OH- The Hubbard Eagles girls basketball team is looking to spread their wings and make some noise in the 2021 season. This was a team that was very competitive last season, a year where the Eagles were pretty inexperienced. Now, they bring a lot of varsity experience into an NE8 that got a lot more open. He has two fantastic leaders as seniors that are great for the locker room. Don’t sleep on the Eagles this season.

GIRARD OH- The community of Girard is hard working, and gritty. Their basketball team does not shy away from that attitude. They will always be known for being feisty, scrappy, gritty, whichever word you’d like to choose to describe a team that simply won’t quit. With a competitive NE8 taking shape this season, the fact that Girard will always be fighting to stay in games makes them dangerous. They are a hard team to run out of the gym.

SALEM GIRLS BASKETBALL COACH’S CORNER (EP 1) WITH SARAH HAMILTON

SALEM OH- Last season, Salem came 4.4 seconds short of winning their first district championship in quite some time. Perry broke the dream by hitting a circus shot at the buzzer. The rallying call for this season is to be 4.4 seconds better. That loss sticks in the mind of head coach Sarah Hamilton, and this year might just avenge it. The Quakers return a handful of experienced, and talented players. They might end up being one of the area teams we are talking about in regionals. A lot of big name teams will be in front of them before then though. The Quakers have loaded up their schedule with high quality teams.
