LEETONIA OH- It’s a new era inside Leetonia boys basketball. Guy Costello takes the reigns of the Bears this season. He is going to try to turn a competitive team into a team that knows how a win. It starts with culture. A winning type of culture that helps you make clutch plays down the stretch. Coach Costello knows it’s going to be a challenge to establish a culture in his first year, but is sure his team will be one that is disciplined, and high in effort. The hope is that will transfer into wins on the floor.

CRESTVIEW BOYS SOCCER COACH’S CORNER (EP 1) WITH ROB AUER & RILEY MACKALL

COLUMBIANA OH- For the third time in three seasons the area has a representative in the OHSAA soccer state tournament. However, for the first time ever, that team is from Columbiana county. The Crestview boys soccer team punched their ticket to the state semifinal with a 4-1 win over Kirtland. An appearance in the state tournament is a great cap to an already incredible season. The Rebels have lost only one game this year. That was to Bay Village, who is in the Division 2 state semifinal. The Rebels are ready to roll as they’ll play Ottawa Hills on Wednesday at 7:00 for a trip to the state championship. The game can be seen in its entirety on ysnlive.com.

GARFIELD BOYS BASKETBALL COACH’S CORNER (EP 1) WITH ANDREW OLESKY

GARRETTSVILLE OH- The MVAC better be ready to welcome in the G-Men because they are storming into the conference. The big thing about the boys basketball program, and really every program in the school is winning breeds winning. Plenty of leaders from Garfield’s already successful football team will spend their winter on the basketball court. They will bring their leadership, and standard of excellence. They’re talent and ability don’t hurt matters either. All and all there are a lot of reason to be looking forward to hoops season in Garfield.

EAST LIVERPOOL OH- It’s basketball time once again in Beaver country. We continue our basketball previews by venturing to Beaver Local to take a look at their girls program. Last season, the Beavers were effected by CKVID more than most, and to add on to the struggle there were some injuries that held them back. That being said, now they’ve had a chance to regroup and load up for what should be a successful season.

LOWELLVILLE OH- The Rockets we’re one of the few area teams last season to have no seniors on their roster. While that made some struggles in 2020, it will lead to Ron’s of experience in 2021. Lowellville is all of the sudden one of the more experienced teams in the MVAC. A MVAC that has become pretty open to a new team taking the title. With a great community behind them, Lowellville promises to be an exciting squad this season.

HUBBARD OH- Here comes basketball season. Everyone in Hubbard is excited for another season watching the Eagles on the court. After a very successful football season, things are flying high in the athletics department.  The Eagles have tons of athletes that will make it easy for them to play a fast paced brand of basketball. That should attract plenty of people into the Eagles nest this winter. With full capacity crowds back, Hubbard is excited to feed off the noise of the crowd.

MINERAL RIDGE OH- It’s the start of a new era in Mineral Ridge girls basketball. Amy Harrison is coming home to coach the Rams. There really is no one better to help build a program than a coach that has been through it. The pride that coach Harrison takes in the Rams will take them far. The athleticism they have on their roster will help too. The majority of the girls roster is made up of multiple sport athletes, showing the full potential of the players the Rams will put on the court.

LISBON BOYS BASKETBALL COACH’S CORNER (EP 1) WITH CHRIS HUCKSHOLD

LISBON OH- Lisbon’s boys hoops team is in the same boat as a lot of teams this season. They are hoping that some experience for young players last season will pay dividends this season. There are 6 sophomores on the team and they all show a ton of potential. Add that with a couple of upperclassmen that will show their leadership, and the Blue Devils have plenty of reasons to be excited for the upcoming season. The EOAC looks to be wide open, and you have to include Lisbon in the list of teams who can throw their hat in the ring.

LOUISVILLE OH- The name “Siegfried” needs no introduction throughout the halls of Louisville. As the winningest boys basketball coach in Leopards history, it is no wonder why the community is looking for another great season!

Highlighted with impressive height and an even more impressive schedule. This is truly a team that looks to be built differently. 

With 16 more victories needed to grab that important 200 career wins for Coach Siegfried. Perhaps Leopard Nation will have a lot to celebrate this year.
