CANFIELD FOOTBALL COACH’S CORNER (EP. 12) WITH MIKE PAVLANSKY

CANFIELD, OH – The OHSAA state playoffs are finally here as the Canfield Cardinals, led by head coach, Mike Pavlansky, have drawn a #4 seed in Region 9 of Division III. Last week the Cards traveled down Route 224 to Spartan Stadium to take on Boardman in a tightly contested game. Canfield ended up putting the Spartans away 13-6, en route to clinching the fourth seed in the playoffs. First up for Canfield in the playoffs will be a home game against the #13 seed, Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin on Friday night at Cardinal Stadium on Bob Dove Field.

YSN’s own, Steve Leslie, had the opportunity to sit down with  Coach Pav this week at Cocca’s Pizza in Canfield to discuss the Cardinals regular season that saw them go 9-1, what Coach and his staff have taken away from the regular season to prepare the Cards for a deep playoff run, what the keys to the game are to see Canfield eliminate the Lions and move on to round two, and so much more!

SPRINGFIELD FOOTBALL COACH’S CORNER (EP. 3) WITH SEAN GUERRIERO

CANFIELD, OH – The OHSAA state playoffs are finally here as head coach, Sean Guerriero, and the Springfield Tigers, have drawn a #3 seed in Region 21 of Division VI. Last week the Tigers traveled down to Sebring to take on the Trojans. Springfield ended up putting away Sebring, 49-0, en route to clinching the third seed in the playoffs. First up for Springfield in the playoffs will be a home game against the #14 seed, Western Reserve on Saturday night.

WEST BRANCH GIRLS BASKETBALL COACH’S CORNER (EP 1) WITH WALT DESHIELDS

BELOIT OH- Tradition is built by success at West Branch, especially in the girls basketball program. It doesn’t take much time in their gym to see the success of their past. Now coming in to a 2021-2022 season, the Warriors have a lot of promise. They have some new faces, and some names that fans will recognize. Rebounding will be a strength for this team that has a ton of height. As head coach Walt DeShields says “sometimes we might look like a boys team with our height.” Coach DeShields is heading in to his 17th season at the helm and has 300 wins. He looks to add a bunch to it, as the program is 18 wins away from 800 total.

Coach DeShields took the time to come on YSN’s Running Point this week to talk about the upcoming season. He chats with Ty Bartell, and Anthony Hartwig about the tradition of West Branch, some new faces to look out for, and much more. Plus a couple of special guests hop on the screen as well. BROOKFIELD GIRLS BASKETBALL COACH’S CORNER (EP 1) WITH KEN FORSYTHE

BROOKFIELD OH- Brookfield comes in to this 2021-2022 season, Brookfield is one of the more exciting young teams out there in the area. They return nearly everyone from a season where they ended up district runners up. They also gave South Range a pretty good scare in that final game of the year. Warriors head coach Ken Forsythe is excited for the season, and what the Warriors will bring to it. He says they will be improved on defense, and take pressure off of their talented offense. Brookfield opens the season November 22nd at Lakeview.

Coach Forsythe took the time to jump on YSN’s Running Point this week to talk about his team, and help us preview his season. He chatted with Ty Bartell, and Anthony Hartwig about his leaders, the tough schedule they have put together, and much more. SOUTH RANGE GIRLS BASKETBALL COACH’S CORNER (EP 1) WITH JEFF FISHEL

CANFIELD OH- It has been an exciting first two years of Jeff Fishel’s reign of the girls basketball program at South Range. The team has gotten to the regional final two years in a row, and has fallen just short of that trip to the final four. Now, in his third year, Raider fans will really be able to see the impact coach Fishel has had on this program. The players that will shine brightest are the ones he has been personally developing. Some familiar faces, some new ones, but it promises to be another exciting season on the Range. The Raiders open the season November 19th at home against Salem.

Coach Fishel was able to drop by Running Point this week to help us preview the Raiders season. He talks with Anthony Hartwig, and Ty Bartell about names to know, how close his group is, and much more. SEBRING BOYS BASKETBALL COACH’S CORNER (EP 1) WITH LEE KNEPP

SEBRING OH- It’s a new era in Sebring for the boys basketball program. As the 2021-2022 season approaches, Lee Knepp takes the reigns as head coach. While it is true that the Trojans will have a lot of new faces this season, they’ll also have a group of extremely coachable athletes. It is a roster full of different skill sets, and after seeing what they have to offer in the summer, coach Knepp is confident they’ll be able to play multiple styles of basketball. Sebring begins their season on November 26th at Leetonia.

LABRAE FOOTBALL COACH’S CORNER (EP 2) WITH JOHN ARMENI

LEAVITTSBURG OH- Sound the Horns! Here Come The Vikings!

In a season that has certainly been one to remember, The LaBrae Vikings are going into week 10 as the number 1 seed in Region 21.

Head coach of The Vikings, John Armeni, joined Ty and Anthony on Running Point to recap the season for LaBrae. All while looking ahead towards their week 10 matchup with Campbell.

LaBrae has utilized a senior heavy squad this season, one that has proven that experience was all this team was lacking.

As the offense has been dynamic this year, similar to years past. However, the biggest change in The Vikings this year? The defense.
LaBrae’s defensive unit has a total of 3 shutouts this year, and holding all but two opponents to 21 points or less this season.

LaBrae looks to sound their horns and make a lot of noise in Region 21. As their matchup will be set after this weekend’s set of games conclude.

LOUISVILLE FOOTBALL COACH’S CORNER (EP 2) WITH TROY DAVIS

LOUISVILLE OH- It has been a big week for Louisville football. They got their first win of the season this week against Alliance 28-27. The kids that have fought and clawed all season finally got to see results. Their motto all season has been “Built Different” and they proved by continuing to put the work in through the struggle of the season. It has taken the senior leadership to keep the team together. Head coach Troy Davis can attest to that.

BROOKFIELD VOLLEYBALL COACH’S CORNER (EP 1) WITH BRIE HARBISON

BROOKFIELD OH- It is officially tournament time for volleyball teams across the area. One of the most dangerous teams outside of top four seeds this year is Brookfield coming out of division 4. The Warriors have plenty of offensive weapons, a strong defense, and a schedule that has made them battle tested. That’s a volatile formula for upsets in postseason play. Lauren Shingledecker has been a force this year. Along with being on the 2nd team All-YSN, she is also up for week 7 of Baird Brothers Big Dog of the Valley. Brookfield is the 10 seed in the district, and matches up with 13th seeded Sebring Thursday night in the sectional final at Western Reserve.

Head coach of the Warriors Brie Harbison has been navigating her first season with the team. The biggest thing she has been trying to instill to her team is confidence. Little by little that meter goes up. Coach Harbison was kind enough to come on Running Point this week to talk about her team. CANFIELD FOOTBALL COACH’S CORNER (EP. 11) WITH MIKE PAVLANSKY

CANFIELD, OH – Week 10 of the regular season is finally here as head coach Mike Pavlansky and the Canfield Cardinals are sitting in the five seed in the most recent playoff projections for the OHSAA state football playoffs. Last week the Cards traveled up to Howland to take on the Tigers and came away with an impressive 42-14 victory. Up next will be a road test as the Cardinals will travel to Boardman (4-4) to take on the Spartans at Spartan Stadium this Friday night.

YSN’s own, Richie Juliano, was able to sit down with Coach Pav this week at Cocca’s Pizza in Canfield to discuss the current seven game winning streak, what Coach and his staff have in store for us this week against Boardman, how the Cards have been able to keep playing high level football each week, and what the keys to the game are to see Canfield improve to 9-1 on the season before the final playoff rankings come out.
