BROOKFIELD GIRLS BASKETBALL COACH’S CORNER (EP 2) WITH KEN FORSYTHE

BROOKFIELD OH- Brookfield came in to Wednesday’s district championship as the higher seed, but maybe the underdog. Crestview was standing on the other side, and despite Brookfield having the better record, Crestview had beaten them twice this season. Ken Forsythe had never beaten Crestview in his coaching career at Brookfield, but he picked a heck of a time to get his first. The Warriors worked past the Rebels 45-34. Now Brookfield heads to South Range to take on the one seeded Raiders. The third time these two programs have met in the district championship in the last eight seasons.

Coach Forsythe called in to YSN’s Running Point this week to update us on the Warriors. He talked to Anthony Hartwig, and Ron Potesta about the team’s big win over Crestview, the challenge ahead, and much more. SOUTH RANGE GIRLS BASKETBALL COACH’S CORNER (EP 7) WITH JEFF FISHEL

CANFIELD OH- South Range has reached their 6th district title game in eight seasons with a 70-25 win over East Palestine in the district semifinals. The Raiders will now try to win their 5th district title in those eight seasons. Standing in their way is Brookfield who toppled Crestview for the first time this season in their district semifinal. This will be the third time these two teams meet in the district finals in the last eight seasons. The Raiders have won the first two of those meetings.

Raiders head coach Jeff Fishel called in to YSN’s Running Point this week to recap the district semifinal and preview the championship game on Saturday. EAST PALESTINE GIRLS BASKETBALL COACH’S CORNER (EP. 1) WITH WILL FRANKLIN

EAST PALESTINE, OH – Playoff time has come for head coach, Will Franklin and the East Palestine Lady Bulldogs as they advanced into the district semi-finals with an impressive 52-34, victory over Burton Berkshire! Up next for the Bulldogs will be a road match-up with the South Range Lady Raiders with an opportunity to advance to the district championship game!

YSN’s own, DJ Yokley, was able to sit down with Coach Franklin this week via video chat to discuss the Lady Bulldogs season so far, what it was like winning the EOAC for the first time in program history, what the Lady Bulldogs were able to do against Berkshire, and what we can expect from East Palestine in this district semi-finals game.

NEWTON FALLS BASKETBALL COACH’S CORNER (EP 1) WITH ROY SEMBACH

NEWTON FALLS OH- The Tigers are entering tournament play at last. Newton Falls closed out the regular season with a 64-30 win over LaBrae on Saturday to close their regular season with a record of 13-5. The Tigers open up their tournament play on Tuesday hosting East Palestine.

POLAND GIRLS BASKETBALL COACH (EP 7) WITH NICK BLANCH

POLAND OH- It is officially tournament time in Poland for the girls basketball program. The Lady Bulldogs finished the regular season by falling to South Range in the team’s second matchup of the year. Splitting with the Raiders secured that both teams would share the top spot in the NE8. It snapped Poland’s 40 game winning streak inside the NE8. Poland then moved on to tournaments where they won their opening game against Jefferson 53-35. Poland will now play West Geauga in the district semifinals on Wednesday.

UNITED GIRLS BASKETBALL COACH’S CORNER (EP 1) WITH JOSH SIGLER

HANOVERTON OH- The Eagles have completed an excellent regular season in preparation for tournaments. What a turnaround it has been for the Eagles after starting 1-4. The Eagles have closed up the regular season and now look ahead to tournament play. The tenth seeded Eagles will travel to Brookfield for the second time this season. Their first meeting went to Brookfield, but it was very early in the season. Both teams have changed quite a bit. Tip for that sectional final is set for 1:00 on Saturday.

Josh Sigler called in to YSN’s Running Point this week to get Eagle fans ready for tournaments. They also discuss the culture of United, and how it is starting to get back to where it has been in the past. COLUMBIANA OH- It is officially tournament time in Crestview for the Lady Rebels. Crestview is coming off a season where they made it to the district championship. They got their journey back to that game started on Wednesday as they battled through a physical game with Waterloo to win 41-27. The Rebels next host LaBrae in the sectional finals on Saturday at 1:00.

YSU BASEBALL COACH’S CORNER (EP 1) WITH DAN BERTOLINI

YOUNGSTOWN OH- Yes fans, its true baseball is back in grit city! It’s been a long time since we have been able to see the Penguins on the baseball diamond. YSU gets things started this year with a road trip to Troy, Alabama to face the Trojans. The skipper of the Penguins Dan Bertolini is just as excited as we are to start the season. He called in to YSN’s Running Point this week to preview the opening series in Troy.

Coach bertolini will be calling in to Running Point every Tuesday at 2:00 throughout the season to recap the weekend before, and preview the upcoming games.

YSU plays four games over the weekend in Troy. The schedule is as follows

SOUTH RANGE GIRLS BASKETBALL COACH’S CORNER (EP 6) WITH JEFF FISHEL

CANFIELD OH- It has been a little bit of time since we last caught up with coach Jeff Fishel. Since we last talked to him, the Raiders dropped their first meeting of the season to Poland 45-35, bounced back to win the next two games, and then avenged their loss to Poland with a 35-25 win in round 2. The Raiders now look forward to tournament time as they open their run against Crestwood on Wednesday. The Raiders are the one seed, so as long as they win they will host their tournament games through districts.

POLAND GIRLS BASKETBALL COACH’S CORNER (EP 6) WITH NICK BLANCH

POLAND OH- It is a busy final week for the Poland program as they look to take momentum into the tournament. They had four games scheduled for the week, however the game against Hubbard had to be canceled. The Bulldogs did pick up wins against Girard and Struthers. Both games saw milestones be reached. Against Girard, Jackie Grisdale broke the single game three point record. Grisdale broke her mom’s record of seven. Then in the win against Struthers, Coach Blanch earned his 200th career victory. The Bulldogs are also scheduled to travel to South Range on Saturday for a rematch with the Raiders.

Coach Blanch had another surprise guest, or should i say guests in this week’s Coach’s Corner. His four captains Ella Harrell, Liz Herdman, Morgan Kluchar, and Jackie Grisdale join the fun. They all discuss some of their favorite moments of the season, finding a team identity, and much more. You will not want to miss this special edition of Coach’s Corner with Nick Blanch.
