LOWELLVILLE BASEBALL COACH’S CORNER (EP 1) WITH DAN DOUGHERTY

LOWELLVILLE OH- Lowellville has a young, but talented roster on the baseball diamond. This season is especially tough to be a young team. The sophomores don’t have the experience their freshman season would have given them. The good news for the Rockets is that with reps come experience, and with experience can come results. They have taken their early season lumps, still looking for their first win but have shown those glimmers of light that show the team has untapped potential. The Rockets look to get on the right trajectory this week opening with Waterloo on Monday.

Rockets skipper Dan Dougherty took out the time to call in to YSN’s Running Point this week to talk about his squad. LISBON SOFTBALL COACH’S CORNER (EP 1) WITH DAVE CRISMON

LISBON OH- The Lisbon Blue Devils softball team are off to a fantastic start, especially inside the EOAC. The Blue Devils figure to be a real contender in the conference, and have the pieces to make a deep run in the postseason. Lisbon made an early statement in the EOAC this week with a dominating season sweep of United. The Eagles had score 39 runs in their young season heading into that series, but the Devils ended all that. Lisbon beat United by a combined 36-4. Lisbon now has to bounce back off a tough loss to Ursuline in their midweek non conference game.  Lisbon gets back in to league play with a two game stretch against East Palestine to open the week.

The head coach of the Blue Devils Dave Crismon was kind enough to dial in to YSN’s Running Point this week to talk about the Blue Devils season so far. He discusses his senior leaders, how deep his lineup is, and much more. LIBERTY BASEBALL COACH’S CORNER (EP 1) WITH TOM OTTO

LIBERTY OH- You can look across the state of Ohio and find a ton of baseball teams that are dealing with a lack of experience thanks to the missed season of 3030. Liberty however, is not one of those teams. The Leopards are senior led, and a lot of those seniors have been key cogs at the varsity level since their freshman season. The start of the Leopards season has proven the point of how good they can be. Liberty had back to back wins, and did allow a single runThey did drop their non conference game on Saturday to Lakeview 12-9. but knowing their 1, and 2 pitchers are capable of back to back shutouts has to make Liberty confident going forward.

Leopards head coach Tom Otto got on the phone this week and made a call to YSN’s Running Point. He talked to Ron Potesta about the incredible start from his pitchers, his senior leaders, and much more. There are plenty reasons to be excited this season Leopards fans, don’t miss a moment. SPRINGFIELD BASEBALL COACH’S CORNER (EP 1) WITH TERRY DOBSON

NEW MIDDLETOWN OH- Springfield boys have had a very successful sports year so far. Coming off a state runner up football season, and a regional qualifying basketball season these Tigers know what it takes to win. Springfield is off to a quick start on the diamond. They have only played one game, however it was a 14-0 thrashing of conference foe Lowellville. AJ Stallsmith hit in 4 runs in that game, and promises to be a key factor in the Tigers lineup. Mitchell Seymour dazzled on the bump opening the season with a no hitter. Add everything up, and it equals tons of good things on the horizon for this team.

Head coach Terry Dobson was kind enough to call in to YSN’s Running Point this week to preview the Tigers season. AUSTINTOWN FITCH BASEBALL COACH’S CORNER (EP 1) WITH JOE PARIS

AUSTINTOWN OH- Fitch baseball is seeing their first action in the Falcons uniform since 2019, and they are geared up for a fantastic season. After the long wait, of course experience on rosters across the state are lower than we’ve ever seen. Fitch hasn’t let that phase them though, as they have a handful of players who got reps in summer leagues, and that has led them to a solid start to the campaign. Fitch is off to a 3-0 start to the season with a win over Niles, and a pair over Boardman. The Falcons host Benedictine on Monday at 1:00.

Falcon head coach Joe Paris was generous with his time and phoned Ron Potesta on YSN’ s Running Point this week. They discussed the upcoming schedule, the great start the team is on, and much more. URSULINE BASEBALL COACH’S CORNER (EP 1) WITH MATT WEYMER

YOUNGSTOWN OH- Ursuline baseball might just be one of the most decorated baseball programs in the area. They always seem to be in the front of the conversation come tournament time in May. After waiting two years to play, the Irish are striving to live up to that standard in 2021. The Irish are off to 2-3 start to the season. They lost a Saturday double header to open the season against Howland, and St Ed’s. The Irish bounced back with back to back wins over Chaney, and LaBrae, before losing on Saturday to Walsh Jesuit. The Irish move on to travel to West Branch on Tuesday.

Irish skipper Matt Weymer took time out of his busy week to update YSN’s Running Point on the Irish squad. He chats with Ron Potesta about his team’s start to the season, what some of the expectations are in the 2021 campaign, and much more. SOUTH RANGE SOFTBALL COACH’S CORNER (EP 1) WITH JEFF DEROSE

CANFIELD OH- South Range softball is off and running in 2021. The Raiders had high expectations coming into the season with seniors Bree Kohler, and Jillian Strecansky leading the charge. Not even Jeff DeRose could have expected the power the Raiders have brought to the start of the season. The team has already hit 5 HR by 5 different players. The lineup is as balanced as it has ever been and that is cause for optimism in the Range. The Raiders head to Myrtle Beach over spring break to get in some quality competition.

UNITED SOFTBALL COACH’S CORNER (EP 1) WITH SAM MATHIAS

HANOVERTON OH- United softball is a young bunch, but you can’t tell that due to their fast start. The Eagles have jumped out to a 3-0 record on the season and 2-0 in the EOAC. Their offense has been the main reason why, the Eagles have scored 39 runs in their first three games. Contributions all around in their lineup as well. The Burton sisters Savannah and Colby or “Bash Sisters” as their known in Hanoverton have really come on this season so far and are producing runs at will. A big two game series with Lisbon looms for the Eagles as they will host the Blue Devils on Monday, and travel to Lisbon on Tuesday.

Head coach Sam Mathias is no stranger to coaching. Along with heading up the softball team at United, he coaches the girls basketball team at Sebring. He has been pleased with the Eagles start so far, and took the time to call in to YSN’s Running Pont to talk about it. He discusses his incredible offensive production, his seniors, and much more. AUSTINTOWN FITCH SOFTBALL COACH’S CORNER (EP 1) WITH STEVE WARD

AUSTINTOWN OH- Austintown Fitch softball is coming off an impressive 2019 season where they won the AAC. Of course like every team in the state. their roster looks dramatically different than it did in 2019. Lydia Spaulding, who is their ace pitcher signed to play for Penn State at the next level is one their returning stars that has six different pitches in her back pocket. Maddy Taylor is the other consistent starter that is returning from 2019. Maddy has brings a calming experienced attitude to the Falcons team that overall will be fairly young. Taylor bring fantastic power to the Fitch lineup. The Falcons open up the season Saturday hosting LaBrae. That game will be broadcasted on YSN.

They discuss their returning leaders, how important their scrimmage schedule has been, and much more. MCDONALD LADY BLUE DEVILS BASKETBALL COACH’S CORNER (EP. 3) WITH TONY MATISI AND MIKE KOLLAR

DAYTON, OH – Head coach Tony Matisi, assistant coach Mike Kollar, and the McDonald Lady Blue Devils are flying high and eager to take on the Fort Loramie Redskins tomorrow morning in the OHSAA Division IV State Championship game at the University of Dayton! The Lady Blue Devils defeated Waterford yesterday, 57-29, to clinch their spot in Saturday’s championship game.

YSN’s own, Steve Leslie, was able to sit down with Coach Matisi and Coach Kollar via video chat this morning to discuss the emotion that the team and coaching staff are feeling knowing they are one game away from history. They also talked about the state semi-final game against Waterford, what the Lady Blue Devils need to do to stay focused, and an outlook on Fort Loramie and how McDonald can make their mark on history tomorrow morning!
