YOUNGSTOWN, OH- Looking for their second straight SVC win in a row and a season sweep of Cardinal Mooney, the Cowboys got out to an early lead. While Mooney would rally to eventually knot things up with a few minutes to play in the first, Chaney would end the quarter on a 12-2 run to close the first ahead by ten. Chaney was led by Jason Hewlett’s ten first quarter points, along with Josiah Gonzalez’s two made three’s as well as a made shot from beyond the arc from Matt Jones.

The Cowboys offense would slow through the second, but their defensive efforts enabled them to still grow their lead. Five different Cowboys would combine for Chaney’s twelve points in the second while holding Mooney to just six in the quarter.

Starting the second half trailing by double digits, the Cardinal Mooney Cardinals dominated the third quarter. Cutting the lead to as little as just four at one point, Mooney outscored Chaney 19-9 in the quarter. Just three Mooney players would score in the third, Jaxon Menough led with eight, while Rocco Turner would add six and AshtonO’Brien five.

Taking the Cardinals best punch in the third, Chaney would end the night with a dominating fourth quarter. The Cowboys would hold Mooney to 12 in the fourth while producing their highest scoring quarter of the night with 21. Chaney would go almost perfect from the line down the stretchshooting 7/8 from the free-throw line.

Chaney: Now winners in back-to-back nights, the Chaney Cowboys will have the night off before hosting the Perry Pirates (16-2) this Thursday, February 9th. The Pirates will carry three game winning streak into the west side.

Mooney: Following their close loss, the Cardinals will look to bounce back with a win against their heated rivals, the Ursuline Irish (17-1). The two squads have yet to meet up this season and the Irish currently hold a four-game winning streak in the Holy War.
