CLIPPERS CONQUER CATS

COLUMBIANA, OH-  Columbiana defeated Struthers 6-4 at Firestone Park on cool, soggy Legion field Friday night.  Evan Kenneally held the Wildcats to one run through four innings to get the win. He also singled and scored the game’s first run giving the Clippers a lead they would not relinquish.

Hunter Stellato lost his command in the fourth allowing the Clippers to score three runs to open up a 5-1 lead.  Stellato may have also been the key at-bat of the contest. With the bases loaded and one out in the fourth and the Wildcats trailing 2-1, he hit the ball sharply but right at the Clipper shortstop, Chase Franken.  Franken’s flip to Ryan Fahs and the relay to Matt Mazei at first was in time to squelch the rally.

Franken collected two hits including a double for the Clippers while Zach Pleska, Fahs, and Michael Ginocchi also had hits.  Robert Tomko had two knocks for the Wildcats.

The Clippers (3-2) are back in action at Firestone tomorrow as they host the Western Reserve Blue Devils at 2 p.m.
