WILDCATS OUTPACED BY LAKEVIEW

STRUTHERS, OH- Hayden Newton was on fire, driving in five runs on four hits to power the Lakeview Bulldogs past Struthers with a commanding 14-1 win on Tuesday. Newton was all over the place, doubling and singling in runs left and right—doubling in the second to bring two home, starting off with a single in the first, and adding more fuel in the fourth with another single and double.

The Bulldogs really turned up the heat in the fourth inning, rallying for nine runs to seal the deal. This inning had it all: Newton and Jake Nicholas delivering key singles, Matthew DeProfio taking a walk that brought in a run, Brandon Cash getting plunked to drive another run home, and Isaiah Lantz clearing the bases with a three-run triple. Newton and Eli Gough didn’t miss out on the action, each adding RBI hits to the explosive inning.

The Bulldogs set the tone early, scoring right off the bat in the first inning with Newton’s RBI single, followed by Andrew Brown and a Struthers error that each plated a run. Newton kept the momentum going with a two-run double in the second.

On the mound, Jacob Shaker was solid, giving up just one run and five hits over five innings while striking out four. On the other side, Drew Chizmar had a rough outing for Struthers, surrendering 14 runs—though only four were earned—over four innings.

The Bulldogs’ bats were hot, racking up 13 hits. Brandon Toot, Lantz, and Nicholas each had multiple hits, with Toot swiping two bases for good measure. Defensively, the Bulldogs were flawless, not making a single error and turning a double play.

Michael Scavicky stood out for Struthers, knocking in their only run and going 2-for-2 at the plate.

Looking ahead, the Bulldogs are back on their home turf Thursday, ready to face LaBrae in what’s shaping up to be another exciting matchup.  Struthers will start a pivotal series with South Range beginning Wednesday.

EDISON CONTINUES TO SHINE IN WIN OVER HEARTLAND

NEW WATERFORD, OH- The Heartland Christian Lions fell short against Edison, losing 7-4 on Tuesday.

The game got off to a rocky start for Heartland Christian as Edison quickly put runs on the board in the first inning. Chase Freeman kicked things off with a single, a Lions error allowed another run, and Kayden Russell added a single to bring in yet another run, setting Edison up with an early lead.

On the mound, Cash Meadows was solid for Edison, allowing just one unearned run over four innings while scattering six hits. He struck out one and walked three, snagging the win. Jake Walker, pitching the distance for Heartland Christian, ended up on the losing end despite a gritty performance, allowing seven runs (only two earned) across seven innings.

At the plate, Tyler Rarick and Drew Gault led the way for Heartland Christian with two hits apiece. Brett Walker, Will Morgan, and Owen Bender each knocked in a run, trying to spark a rally for the Lions. Walker also showed great discipline, drawing two of the team’s eight walks.

Edison’s lineup saw Freeman and Russell each putting up two hits and combining for four RBIs, helping to keep their team ahead throughout the game. Nolan Haught also added two hits to Edison’s total.

Looking ahead, Heartland Christian will try to bounce back in their next game as they head to Columbiana on Friday, hoping to tighten up their game and turn things around.

BULLDOGS OFF THE LEASH

CORTLAND OH- Lakeview continued their impressive season with another dominant win over Struthers on Tuesday, blanking them by a score of 11-0.

The Lakeview offense was firing on all cylinders, led by Mack Stowe’s standout performance. Stowe went 3 for 4 at the plate, including a home run, driving in 2 RBIs and scoring 2 runs. Izzy Haines also contributed with a 3-for-4 performance and an RBI, while Hallie Capan added 3 RBIs on 2 hits. Isabella Isenberg, Kalyssa Werner, and Kennedy Bartlett each contributed with hits and RBIs, with Bartlett also drawing a walk and scoring 2 runs.

In the circle, Ava Bacon was stellar for Lakeview, pitching a complete game shutout. Bacon allowed just 3 hits over 5 innings while striking out 8 batters and not allowing any earned runs.

BULLDOGS TAME STRUTHERS

CORTLAND, OH- The Lakeview Bulldogs dominated Struthers with a convincing 10-0 win on Monday, thanks to a big fourth inning where they plated six runs. Ty Chamberlain kicked off the scoring spree with a single that drove in two runs, followed by Andrew Brown and Nathan Paolucci each adding RBI singles. Hayden Newton doubled to bring in another run, and Matt Seikel grounded out but still managed to knock in a run.

The Bulldogs first got on the scoreboard in the second inning. Chamberlain singled and Aidan O’Rourke scored on a tag-up play, setting the tone for the game.

On the mound, Paolucci was untouchable, throwing a five-inning no-hitter while striking out five and issuing just two walks, earning him the win. On the other side, Jordan Becker struggled for Struthers, giving up six runs (five earned) over three innings.

The Bulldogs were on fire at the plate, racking up 10 hits. Chamberlain and Matthew DeProfio each picked up two hits, while Seikel also added a pair. Chamberlain and Brown were instrumental, each driving in two runs to bolster the Bulldogs’ offense.

Defensively, Lakeview was sharp, turning a double play to help maintain their lead and keep Struthers off the board.

The Bulldogs are back in action against Struthers on Tuesday, looking to continue their winning streak in this back-to-back matchup.

BAILEY’S BIG DAY KEEPS THE CATS AT BAY

SALEM, OH- Lance Baileyput on a show,  racking up three hits as the Salem Quakers cruised to a 10-0 shutout against the Struthers Wildcats on Friday. Bailey was everywhere, knocking singles in the first, fourth, and sixth innings.

The Quakers set the tone early, jumping ahead in the first inning after Troy Gibson drew a walk that brought in a run. They tacked on another in the second when Carson Rhodes grounded out, but the real explosion came in the sixth inning. They unleashed five runs off seven hits, with Bailey, Trenton McCoy, and Austin Chaffin delivering big hits to drive in runs.

McCoy was stellar on the mound, tossing a gem by allowing just two hits and zero runs over six innings, fanning eight. On the other side, Michael Scavnicky had a rough go, giving up eight runs across five innings for the Wildcats.

The Quakers’ bats were hot, amassing a total of 21 hits. McCoy went a perfect 4-for-4, leading the charge, while Chaffin, Gibson, and Bailey each knocked in two runs. The team was aggressive on the bases, swiping six bags, with Rhodes stealing two himself.

For Struthers, Scavnicky and Eddie Bradley managed to pick up a hit each in a tough outing where they also turned a double play.

Next, the Quakers are set to face the Cardinal Huskies on Saturday. With momentum on their side, they’re looking to keep the wins coming.

HERALDS RUN WILD IN CHALKER WIN

Ashtabula, OH- St. John Heralds dominated the Chalker Wildcats with an impressive 12-1 victory on Thursday.

The Wildcats struck first in the opening inning, with Vince DelVecchio’s sacrifice fly driving in a run. However, the Heralds quickly responded, capitalizing on two errors to take a commanding 3-1 lead by the end of the inning.

In the second inning, the Heralds further solidified their lead with a powerful offensive display, scoring five runs on just two hits. DelVecchio managed to induce a fielder’s choice from Ezra Campbell, but the Heralds still managed to score, with Aaron Wychock and Brady Cole delivering clutch hits to drive in runs.

The Heralds continued to pour on the runs, adding another run in the third inning to extend their lead to 9-1, with Campbell drawing a walk to bring in a run.

Cole started the game on the mound for the Heralds, delivering a solid performance by allowing just one run over one inning. DelVecchio took the mound for the Wildcats but struggled, giving up eight runs (three earned) over two innings. Wychock and Will Anderson came in as relief pitchers for the Heralds, shutting down the Wildcats’ offense with shutout innings.

Wychock led the Heralds’ offense with two RBIs, going 2-for-2 at the plate. The Heralds showed discipline at the plate, drawing a total of 10 walks throughout the game. Chase Clutter and Anderson displayed patience, each drawing two walks. Wychock also showcased his speed on the basepaths, stealing two bases.

Defensively, the Heralds were impeccable, committing no errors in the field, with Kyle Hejduk making the most plays with seven chances.

Del Vecchio drove in the lone run for the Wildcats, while Daniel Kellar and Logan Smallsreed collected one hit each.

The Heralds look to carry their momentum into their next game, a doubleheader on the road against the Maplewood Rockets on Saturday.

POLAND MAKES USE OF EVERY OPPORTUNITY

POLAND OH – A Northeast 8 Conference game between Struthers and Poland finished with a commanding 16-5 win for the Lady Bulldogs, who improved their record to 7-8 on the season and 6-2 in Conference Play.

Olivia Horn picked up her 7th victory in the circle over 3 innings of work scattering 3 hits and collecting 6 strikeouts.  Poland Seminary’s offense ramped-up for 17 hits in the abbreviated game. Leanna Boccieri and Lilly McDonald each had 3 hits with McDonald doubling in 2 RBIs.  Mary Brant, Leanne Williams and Olivia Horn each had 2 hits with Horn plating 3 RBIs and Williams 2 RBIs.  Junior second baseman Kylie Hudran had 4 RBIs with a double and Cassie Blanch doubled in a run.
The Lady Wildcats had 8 hits in the game capped by Vivian Marker who homered in the contest and Emma Morris who had 2 hits.  Also, Ava Hall tripled and Katie Morris doubled for Struthers.  Morgan Minno took the loss on the hill for Struthers scattering 9 hits and allowing 8 runs.
The Lady Bulldogs resume NE8 Conference play at South Range on Wednesday.

BULLDOGS STAY PERFECT AGAINST STRUTHERS

POLAND, OH- The Poland Bulldogs took down Struthers 10-3 on Tuesday, fueled by a massive eight-run explosion in the fifth inning at Poland Seminary High School. The rally was sparked by hits left and right: Matt Paparodis, Ryan Dilullo, Jacob Hayes, Aiden Thompson, Jacob Jenkins, and Zach Livosky all delivered crucial singles that drove in runs, alongside a helpful Struthers error that added to the chaos.

The Bulldogs set the tone early, scoring in the first inning off a walk by Hayes and a Struthers error. However, Struthers bounced back, tying the game at two in the third thanks to J.R. Hovanec’s double. They even snatched a brief lead in the fifth when Drew Chizmar singled to make it 3-2.

Stephen Kopkash was the winning pitcher for the Bulldogs, handling his business with six hits and two runs over four innings while striking out nine. On the mound for Struthers, Mike Scavnicky faced the brunt of Poland’s offensive outburst, giving up five runs over three and two-thirds innings.

Paparodis not only contributed with his bat but also started on the mound for Poland, surrendering one run over two innings with three strikeouts. Meanwhile, Thompson pitched a clean inning in relief, striking out three and keeping Struthers at bay.

Zach Livosky stood out by driving in two crucial runs from the ninth spot in the lineup, and Matt Boccieri demonstrated discipline at the plate with two walks, contributing to the team’s total of six. The Bulldogs also showed off their speed, stealing a couple of bases, with Boccieri swiping two himself.

Struthers didn’t go quietly, racking up 10 hits, led by Scavnicky’s three-hit effort. Grady Moore also showed his speed, nabbing two bases as part of Struthers’ four total steals on the day.

Next up, the Bulldogs (11-0)will be back on their home turf Wednesday to face NE8 rival, South Range. 

BULLDOGS OFF THE LEASH

STRUTHERS OH- Poland beat Northeast 8 rival Struthers on Monday by a score of 10-0 in an abbreviated 6 inning game.  Poland improves to 6-8 on the season and 5-2 in NE8 conference play.

The Lady Bulldogs jumped-out to an early lead scoring 2 runs in first and didn’t look back afterwards.  Poland pounded 16 hits with senior Shortstop Mary Brant collecting 3 hits and 4 RBIs including a 2 run home run in the top of the sixth.  Junior pitcher Olivia Horn had 3 hits too, while Elliana Thompson, Leanne Williams, Kylie Hudran and Cassie Blanch each had 2 hits with Blanch doubling earning 2 RBIs.  Thompson doubled and tripled collecting 2 RBIs.
Lanie Toutin had two hits leading Struthers on offense, and Maddie Minno took the loss for Struthers on the mound.
Olivia Horn picked up her 6th win of the season in the circle striking out 11 and scattering 5 hits.  The NE8 rivals resume play tomorrow in Poland.

HUBBARD STAYS ON A TEAR

HUBBARD OH- Andrew Kali collected three hits in three at bats, as Hubbard defeated Struthers 14-2 on Wednesday. Kali doubled in the third inning, doubled in the second inning, and singled in the first inning.

Hubbard scored eight runs in the third inning on the way to victory. Tyler Wright singled, scoring two runs, Johnny Reyes drew a walk, scoring one run, Kali doubled, scoring two runs, an error scored one run, Braydon Songer drew a walk, scoring one run, and a passed ball scored one run. A ground out by JR Hovanec put Struthers  on the board in the top of the first.

The Eagles took the lead in the bottom of the first. Geno Leshnack singled, scoring two runs, to give them the lead, 2-1. They then added to their early lead in the bottom of the second inning after Wright tripled, Reyes singled, Kali doubled, and they scored on a wild pitch, each scoring one run.

Kali earned the win for Hubbard. The right-handed pitcher gave up two hits and two runs over three innings, striking out two and walking two. Isaac Wolfe stepped on the mound first for the Wildcats. The starting pitcher allowed five hits and five runs over one and one-third innings, striking out none and walking one.

Hubbard piled up nine hits in the game. Leshnack stole two bases. They had patience at the plate, piling up six walks for the game. The Eagles ran wild on the base paths, collecting six stolen bases for the game. Hubbard was sure-handed in the field and didn’t commit a single error. Wright had the most chances in the field with five.

Michael Scavnicky and Hovanec were a one-two punch in the lineup, as each drove in one run for Struthers. Leadoff hitter Anthony Pastella led with two hits in two at bats. Struthers turned one double play in the game.
