WILDCATS OUTPACED BY LAKEVIEW
STRUTHERS, OH- Hayden Newton was on fire, driving in five runs on four hits to power the Lakeview Bulldogs past Struthers with a commanding 14-1 win on Tuesday. Newton was all over the place, doubling and singling in runs left and right—doubling in the second to bring two home, starting off with a single in the first, and adding more fuel in the fourth with another single and double.
The Bulldogs really turned up the heat in the fourth inning, rallying for nine runs to seal the deal. This inning had it all: Newton and Jake Nicholas delivering key singles, Matthew DeProfio taking a walk that brought in a run, Brandon Cash getting plunked to drive another run home, and Isaiah Lantz clearing the bases with a three-run triple. Newton and Eli Gough didn’t miss out on the action, each adding RBI hits to the explosive inning.
The Bulldogs set the tone early, scoring right off the bat in the first inning with Newton’s RBI single, followed by Andrew Brown and a Struthers error that each plated a run. Newton kept the momentum going with a two-run double in the second.
On the mound, Jacob Shaker was solid, giving up just one run and five hits over five innings while striking out four. On the other side, Drew Chizmar had a rough outing for Struthers, surrendering 14 runs—though only four were earned—over four innings.
The Bulldogs’ bats were hot, racking up 13 hits. Brandon Toot, Lantz, and Nicholas each had multiple hits, with Toot swiping two bases for good measure. Defensively, the Bulldogs were flawless, not making a single error and turning a double play.
Michael Scavicky stood out for Struthers, knocking in their only run and going 2-for-2 at the plate.
Looking ahead, the Bulldogs are back on their home turf Thursday, ready to face LaBrae in what’s shaping up to be another exciting matchup. Struthers will start a pivotal series with South Range beginning Wednesday.
