FITCH EDGES THE SPARTANS AGAIN

AUSTINTOWN OH- The Falcons hosted AAC rival Boardman on Tuesday afternoon at Coppola Field and the game turned out to be a pitcher’s duel. After Boardman struck first for a run in the top of the 2nd inning, the Falcons responded with 2 runs in the home-half of the 4th and relied on the lefty Nick Kyrprianou to hold the Spartans bats at bay in a 2-1 victory for Fitch.

Kyprianou went 6.2 innings giving up 1 run on only 3 hits and struck out two batters to pick up the important league win.  He worked around some walks and got big outs when needed for the Falcons.  After allowing some base runners in the 7th inning, Carter Owens came on in relief for the second game in a row and slammed the down shut by striking out the final batter to pick up the save.

Offensively, Fitch went to work in the bottom of the 4th innings as the first three batters of the inning all reached on singles.  Owens started off with a single and was followed by Carson Fuller and Mason Petridis.  That set the stage for a sacrifice fly by Jackson Cheeks to score Owens and John Darnley followed with an RBI single to score Fuller.  That turned out to be all the offense the Falcons needed for the victory.

Fitch improves to 11-4 on the season and 5-1 in the All American Conference.  They will be back on Coppola Field on Wednesday, April 24 against Warren JFK in a make-up game from a postponement on April 12.  First pitch is scheduled for 4:30 PM.
