LEOPARDS CLINCH MVAC OUTRIGHT


LIBERTY, OH – The Liberty Lady Leopards were able to get their first outright Mahoning Valley Athletic Conference championship in program history, and their first league title since 2011 with a big win over Champion, Monday night.

Both teams traded early runs in the first quarter, but eventually Liberty would go up by 10 at half. Champion was on fire from three in the second half to help them fight back, knowing a share of the conference championship was on the line.

Champion came out hot in the fourth, as they were able to cut Liberty’s lead to one, but Liberty’s Kylee Thomas was able to knock down a huge  three  to keep Champion away. Aaliyah Foster was able to get a few late baskets to help Liberty put the game away, 59-51.

For Liberty, Aaliyah Foster led the way with 13 points. Cianna Smith added 10. Tiana Weatherly put up 9, and Gianna Micheline finished with 8.

 

For Champion, Isabella Meyer led the way with a game-high 22 points. Lorinda Dodrill added 12.

 

Liberty will be back in action on Wednesday, as they will travel to Campbell. Champion will also be back in action Wednesday on the road, as they will travel to Crestview. Don’t miss it on YSN!
