MCDONALD SURVIVES A SCARE TO MOVE ON

By Michael Wolfgang

McDONALD, OHIO – The offense for McDonald wasn’t as high scoring Wednesday night against Cardinal as it has been several times this season, but two runs along with a combined shutout out from their pitchers was enough to get the win and advance 2-0.

A single by Alivia Morrison got the Blue Devils on the board in the first inning. Cardinal kept McDonald at bay offensively for four innings until the Blue Devils added their second run in the bottom of the sixth inning to make it 2-0.

Bella O’Brien got the job done on offense as she went two-for-three. O’Brien was also a force in the pitchers circle, being part of that combined shout where she pitched five innings of zero hits, two walks, and a dazzling 14 strikeouts. Gianna Mancini started the game as she pitched the first two innings striking out four and only allowing one hit, the lone hit of the game for Cardinal which was a single by Morgan Soltis.

The final line for McDonald was two runs on five hits with one fielding error. Next up for McDonald is Western Reserve at home at 5:00 p.m. Thursday night.
