SPARTANS WIN INSTANT CLASSIC TO GET TO TITLE GAME

CANTON, OH- This Boardman team has a flair for the dramatic, and they put it out on full display on Tuesday afternoon against Uniontown Lake when the Spartans defeated Lake 1-0 as two pitchers combined to throw a shutout in the nine-inning affair.

The pitching was strong on both sides. Boardman pitchers Gavin Hyde and Griffin Widrig struck out eight, while Connor Campbell sat down six.

Hyde took the win for Boardman as he lasted eight innings, allowing four hits and zero runs while striking out seven. Widrig threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen. Widrig recorded the last three outs to earn the save for the Spartans.

Campbell took the loss for Lake. The bulldog allowed six hits and one run over nine innings, striking out six and walking one.

Hyde got the game-winning RBI in the top of the ninth when he drove in Adam Konnerth to crack the goose egg in the run column for the Spartans.

Stephen Conti, Anthony Butto, Hyde, Caleb Satterfield, Jason Triveri, and Colin Thomas each managed one hit to lead Boardman Spartans Varsity.
